Africa Safari for Family Holidays
To prepare you for your african safari trip, we have put together a guide featuring some of the best holidays trips in Tanzania! So pack your safari clothes and be ready for your african safari honeymoon! The amazing country of Tanzania beholds many of the world’s most beautiful scenic landscapes, such as the largest mountain in Africa – Mount Kilimanjaro, the largest lake in Africa – Lake Victoria and the notoriously famed, breath taking Great Rift Valley.
Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti is famed as one of the greatest National Parks in the world, and it is truly understandable why after a visit there. The landscape of the park is completely open and stretches on further than the eye can see. Whilst on safari in the Serengeti, you may be able to spot the famous ‘Big Five’ (Black Rhino, Masai Lion, Cape Buffalo, Elephant and Leopard), Cheetah, Hartebeest, Hyena, Impala, Masai Giraffe, Topi, Crocodile and Hippo. The park shares the unique event of the annual ‘Great Migration’ with the Masai Mara of Kenya. This is the clockwise migration of over 1 million wildebeest, gazelle and zebra that keep on the move in search of fresh grazing pastures.
The Ngorongoro crater was the result of a collapsed Volcano over 2 million years ago. The crater floor makes a great habitat for wildlife, with many different types of terrain, including montane forest, woodland, bush land and open grassland. This variety of environments ensures that the wildlife within the crater thrives, and the 2,000 foot high walls ensure that the animals remain protected from outside danger.
Selous Game Reserve
Selous is made up of rocky outcrops, lagoons, woodland and grassy plains. It is the largest Game Reserve in the world, covering a huge land mass of 50,000 square metres. The wildlife inside the park is heavily populated and diverse, ranging from predators such as Lion, Crocodile and African Hunting Dog, to ungulates like Greater Kudu, Impala, Plains Zebra and Sable. There is the option to take a boating safari in the Rufiji River which runs through the park, on which you can expect to spot Hippos and Crocodile peering over the water’s surface.
