Accommodation: Swartberg Hotel
The tour begins as you leave the bustling city of Cape Town behind and travel through the peaceful Hex River Valley. This picturesque mountain pass features endless vineyards and fruit orchards making it an ideal spot to stop and sample some of the world-class wines and fruit produced in the area. You will then visit the National Heritage Site of Matjiesfontein, a village known for its beautiful Victorian-era architecture, before heading to the delightful village of Prince Albert where you will stay overnight in the historical Swartberg Hotel.
Accommodation: La Plume Guest House
The second day of the tour begins with a hearty Karoo breakfast followed by a scenic drive along the Meiringspoort Pass. This spectacular pass meanders through the towering Swartberg Mountains and the lovely tree-lined village of De Rust, known for its historic Victorian buildings, many of which are occupied by tempting eateries and trendy little art galleries. You will then spend the night in the nearby town of Oudtshoorn, where you can take a guided tour of an ostrich farm as well as the world-famous Cango Caves, an elaborate underground labyrinth of vast limestone caverns.

Day three of this tour will see you whisked along the beautiful Outeniqua Pass to the bustling commercial hub of George. This agricultural town boasts an array of historic landmarks including the Slave Tree and the Edwardian-style King Edward VII Library. The journey then continues past the pleasant seaside resort of Wilderness, before making an overnight stop in the bustling holiday town of Knysna. Take a boat cruise on the Knysna Lagoon to the impressive Featherbed Nature Reserve, enjoy lunch under the milkwood trees, and spend the afternoon exploring this charming little town’s various markets, selling artisan food products and an array of locally produced clothing and crafts.
Spend the fourth day of your tour exploring the natural area surrounding Knysna. Visit the Garden of Eden, which features a trail of wooden boardwalks and bridges running through the lush indigenous Knysna forest, known for its dense green foliage, gentle streams, and giant yellowwood trees. A tour of the forest is typically followed by a trip to the iconic Knysna Heads and to the impressive Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, the world’s first free roaming multi-species primate sanctuary. This can be followed by a trip to Brenton on Sea, an attractive holiday resort surrounded by pristine expanses of wilderness and unspoiled white sand beaches.
