Reviews

"If you love wine, outstanding food and a sense of very higher standard luxury this is the hotel for you to stay at. The staff was always helpful we never waited longer than 10 mins after we had called the reception for anything to be dropped off at our suit. The breakfast and its variety was outstanding. Don't forget to taste all the delicious wines Paarl and its wine estates offer."

"This is an historic wine estate, modernized but retaining old world charm. We stayed in the slave quarter in a unit with two floors. Downstairs was a living room with working fireplace (freestanding) that instantly took the chill off the October day. Upstairs was an enormous bed, very comfortable, and a large bathroom with both shower and tub. The estate was charming and beautifully groomed. The dining room was elegantly appointed and food excellent, both at dinner and breakfast. Service was first-rate. We hated to leave."

"We stayed in the Grande Roche for 2 nights during our honeymoon. The hotel is situated in the middle of a vineyard. The service was great. When we arrived the bathroom was specially decorated with candles and a bottle of sparkling wine and the bath tub was already prepared for us. The rooms are designed in the old wine estate style with mulched roofs but with all the nice amenities you need. An absolute highlight is the restaurant. A must! The food is beautiful. We did twice the 6 course tasting menu and every bite was just amazing. The sommelier recommended a beautiful wine with it to round up this beautiful experience. Thank you all!"

"We stayed here for a few days while we explored / drank in the wine region. A lovely location. Paarl itself not overly exciting and certainly not as touristy as Frranschoek, although there are 2 or 3 good restaurants only 300M or so from Grande Roche. That is, of course, if you fancy a change. The menu at Grand Roche, particularly the weekend, is really exciting. Also, the sommelier at the Grand Roche was very knowledgeable and recommended some of the smaller more interesting wineries nearby to visit. Pretty happy overall and good value. I would recommend for a short break."

"This is a superb property staffed by excellent personnel serving wonderful food in a vineyard setting. We had a two level room (Malabar) with a log burning fire to take the chill off the air. We could not have been happier with our stay in the Grand Roche."

"From the moment we arrived (we were met in the parking area and greeted by name)! Until our departure, it was simply perfect: the attentive staff (everyone) made us feel like they were genuinely interested in us and actually cared about our well-being. The setting was perfect, the accommodation wonderful, the food delicious and the attention to detail unquestionable."

"This was really a very pleasant stay. The rooms looked new and very spacious. The bathrooms were very clean. We had a very comfortable nights sleep. The hot breakfast served was very good and the cold breakfast buffet had a great choice of fruit pastries and cheeses. The best was the service from the staff, friendly and efficient."

"Spectacular mansion set amongst the vines with very comfortable converted 'slave quarters' in the gardens as accommodation. Ground floor lounge with telly & wc and upstairs large en-suite bedroom. Gym and swimming pool at hotel. Impressive, very popular restaurant with gourmet menu - a real dining experience. Excellent breakfast (with champagne if desired). Very friendly, helpful staff - were met in the car park and the excellent service continued until we left."

"Very relaxing couple of days in thatched cottage terrace suite. Main building dates from 1715 and you do have a real sense of history. Lovely terrace with sublime views - just the place for sundowners. Grounds are beautiful and well kept and the secluded pool area is particularly nice. Not a huge place and all the better for it. Breakfasts good and friendly service throughout. You pay for the treat but it's worth it"

"We really enjoyed our 3 day stay at the Grande Roche in a great location. A real luxury hotel with top service. We have enjoyed the "Bubbles & Braai" event as well as our dinner at the hotel's Bosman's Restaurant."
