The newly-opened Honeyguide Ranger Camp is located in the Entabeni (“Place in the Mountain”) Safari Conservancy, situated in the glorious 22 000
Ranger Camp offers game drives in new, open game-viewing vehicles, both in the early morning and late afternoon (sundowner drinks included). View the jaw-dropping Yellowwood Gorge, where the road twists down the escarpment between cliffs,
There are 13 luxury, safari-style tents set among the trees. Each has fine views from your own private terrace with animals wandering freely by. Food is a highlight at Honeyguide. Dining is a communal affair, usually served outdoors at a long table with log fires and flaming torches, creating an authentic bush experience. The simple, homemade dishes, using local produce, are beautifully presented.
The camp is open to visitors year round. Game viewing is at its best during the dry, winter months (May–October) when animals congregate around waterholes and sparser vegetation provides better viewing. But it does get cold at night and during the morning game drive, so pack accordingly. For bird watching, the wet, summer months (December–March) are best. The rivers are full, the bushveld is lush, and there’s no shortage of food, nesting material and cover to hide in. This is the prime holiday season in South Africa, but it can get very hot. Autumn (April–May) is also good for birding but probably the worst months for

"We spent 4 nights at Honeyguide Ranger Camp and we had a fantastic bush experience. The tented rooms were comfortable with warm duvets and electric blankets to keep us warm at night. The food was superb prepared by Sylvia in the kitchen and served in a delightfully thatched Boma. We saw great game with Dan our ranger who had very good knowledge of the bush. We will definitely visit again."
"I booked into the Ranger camp as part of the Big 5 Marathon race I entered in June 2015. I was planning on running the marathon through the game reserve and then spending some time on game drives and bush walks. The camp is quite small, only 13 tents which are appropriately spaced apart so there is privacy and a sense of being alone in the wilderness. Despite that it had a cozy atmosphere to it, particularly in the boma (bar/restaurant area) where we all met to eat and shared our stories of the run and the animals we saw on the drives. And of course we had the obligatory camp fire! The camp is new and so the facilities are all excellent quality and in working order. The tents were very comfortable and included electric blankets which were very much appreciated when the temperatures plummeted at night. Each tent had a private deck where the shower was located. There was plenty of running hot water and the experience of showering at night under the stars was amazing. The food was first class and plentiful; there was a different menu each lunch and dinner time. As good as any 5 star hotel I’ve stayed in. The most impressive part about the whole experience though must be the staff. JP the camp manager was first rate and an incredibly funny guy! From the rangers and guides, who were very knowledgeable to the chefs and backroom team, everyone was very friendly and gave a sincere impression of enjoying what they did. They were happy to go out of their way to make our visit enjoyable and nothing was too much trouble from arranging a birthday cake for someone’s birthday celebration to rescheduling meals and game drives to fit in with our last minute requests. Arranging additional activities was easy and no trouble. It was a very professional arrangement and I consider it very good value for money. I would certainly stay there again on my next visit to the Entabeni Game Reserve and would recommend it to my friends."
"Stayed for 3 nights. Came stressed out and left a new person. Felt I could have stayed a day or two longer. Very good trip by road from Johannesburg , only gravel road is to the camp itself, about 10km the most. Met on arrival with a cold welcome refreshing drink. Parked car under cover which is useful for the summer. Taken to our private tent which was not your normal type of tent. Very comfortable bed with a net, writing desk, safe , chairs on the deck which we did not have time to use. Very nice bathroom and my favourite , the outdoor shower. Showering under the stars was very romantic . Lodge has free WiFi around the reception / pool area and where you have lunch to send those pictures out to your Facebook friends. Same day of arrival we had lunch which was a surprize under the trees, very enjoyable Evening game drives leave at 4pm and the great thing here is time is African time, not set to exactly 3 hrs. and you back. So flexible. It was like this for all the drives. The rangers/ guides go out of their way to track the animals which is exciting as you part of it , looking at the foot prints in the sand. It took 3 days on and off to find the cheetah . We found them, that's was Vaughan mission . The trip up the mountain for sunset is stunning and a picnic on the mountain was so different and out of this world. Honey guide rangers camp is not only the game but the pure scenery , a photographer's dream . Dinner at night is with your fellow guests and ranger on the game drives , together talking about the day with a log fire in the background. For those wanting to do star gazing , they have a telescope just to do that and a beautiful library on two floors overlooking a small waterhole. Just a little heaven to escape the outside world. Night time the beds are layer down with bottled water and net open up. Early morning tea or coffee is brought to your tent just like the old days , metal cups and yummy biscuits. We left refreshed and for those wanting to do a bushwalk after breakfast , you can do with your ranger. We choose to lie by the pool and swim. Meals were plentiful and delicious home made meals. Was there anything I didn't like or wrong , no nothing to complaint about. Perhaps not seeing my leopard but that is the beauty of nature , nothing is guaranteed or artificially found here. We were very happy with the game we saw ,from an elephant shrew , snakes , cheetah , elephants , mating lions and kill to the plains game and so much more. All the staff were very friendly and chatty . Would I come again , YES as this was heaven and peaceful with no TV or radios in sight. Very romantic as well and we will leave it there."
"Honeyguide created a wonderful experience from the polished, well kept tented camps, courteous staff, and of course, the unforgettable game drives where we saw the Big Five in a single outing. In addition, hippos, elephants, buffalo, lion, and giraffe were all regular visitors to the local watering hole. Which can be viewed from the open air lounge between game drives. Anton (manager/guide) and Phillip (tracker) provided an incredible experience through their dedication, hard work, and subtle humor."
