Come and experience the wildlife and wilderness that makes Africa such a special place - the memories made on safari will stay with you forever!
Stayed here for a weekend getaway. Lodge is 5 star quality. Rooms were roomy and comfortable. Bathrooms are luxurious and the outside shower is a hit. Common area is comfy and very cozy in the evenings. Food was excellent, with a wide variety to suit most palates. Service was good but sometimes a bit over bearing. The game drives were definitely the highlight and I guess the main reason why people come to a place like this. Rangers are well prepared and react accordingly to the needs of the guests. Animal sightings were abundant.Overall a great lodge with all the amenities one would expect from a 5 star rated lodge.
After a warm greeting on arrival we were quickly shown our rooms and were asked by a ranger if we were keen on the afternoon game drive. After a big few days of travelling 3 hours in a game vehicle was not exactly what we felt like, however off we went. Within 10 minutes we had forgotten about the jet lag and were taken on one of the most amazing experiences of our lives! On our first trip we saw 4 of the big 5 including the Leopard pictured below who sat and drank in front of us for over 5 minutes. Our guide Jacques was amazing, he shared so much knowledge and knew the park inside out. It was great having the same guide for our entire stay as he knew what we had and hadn't seen.Early the next morning we set out looking for Lion. Sure enough within 15 minutes we saw 2 females. Later in the drive we saw another 2 females, one heavily pregnant, hunting Impala. Although they were unsuccessful it was still an amazing experience. Our accommodation was nice with big comfortable king sized beds with each room being individual " bungalow" with an outdoor shower- which we were skeptical in the middle of winter, however it had high water pressure and was very hot.The food was good, there was always a choice and plenty to eat. Alcohol was the only thing not included in our accommodation however was dirt cheap compared to Australian standards. The big fire place by the bar was a great place to play cards and meet other guests.Overall couldn't be happier with our stay and highly recommend the Ivory Tree Game Lodge.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Ivory Tree. The staff is very warm and helpful, the villas are beautiful and the safari experience was wonderful. I spent about 3 days and nights here and went on all the evening drives (it was way too cold to do the morning drives...I wish I had brought my ski clothes on the trip...did not expect the severe temperature drops). Our group was able to see 4 of the Big 5. It was a really great experience. I would definitely return.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Ivory tree game lodge and would recommend it to anyone. We hope to visit there again soon. The staff were very friendly and helpful, service was excellent and the scenery beautiful.

We stayed at the lodge last week. We had a wonderful time. Our room was great. the lodge was very nice. The outdoor shower was a nice touch. Our guide on the game drives did an excellent job. Her name is Stacey. It was obvious that she really cares about the animals. She also cares about the guest experience. We were able to get some incredible photos and video. Although I do not look forward to ever flying that far again, I intend to return there some day.
Spent the weekend with a couple of colleagues at Ivory Tree Game Lodge for a break during a work trip. The lodge isn't small (60 rooms) but doesn't feel crowded and operates very efficiently. Upon arrival we were greeted by our ranger, who took care of us for the rest of the trip. The game drive vehicles seat 9 and you stay with the same driver throughout, who also wakes you up in the morning and hosts dinner to tell you more about the lodge and reserve. This makes things very social as you get to know others in your vehicle but perhaps might not be ideal for a couple wanting a romantic break. There is a wide range of game in the reserve - we saw four of the big five (though the buffalo were very far away) and had some great sightings of elephants and giraffes in particular. You can't go off road so it's a bit pot luck whether the animals come towards you - we were lucky and the lions crossed in front of the vehicle. You stop at designated rest stops for hot drinks in the morning and sundowners in the evening. We also had a great treatment in the spa! Rooms were very nice with big bathtub and outdoor shower.
We cannot even describe our African adventure. Our ranger, PJ, made our trip absolutely spectacular and provided us with memories that will last a lifetime. PJ was a wealth of information, personable and had a great sense of humor. Janet (the manager) and the rest of the staff at this lodge are unparalleled to all of our other travels. The accommodation, food and service were superb. But all of those things are meaningless without PJ, Janet and the rest of the staff. We never thought we would look forward to a 5:00 a.m. wake-up call as much as we did. If you travel to the Ivory Tree Game Lodge introducing yourself to PJ and Janet is an absolute must. We arrived with PJ as our Ranger and Janet as the Manager and we left with them as our friends! We also availed and pampered ourselves at the spa - excellent! This is some place I want to bring my family back to! I traveled with friends to the Ivory Tree Game Lodge and our experience was unforgettable!
Everything from the gorgeous villas, the excellent food, the top of the line service to the amazing grounds! We enjoyed every moment!
We were a large group of friends and the Lodge was more than accommodating! I shared a villa with one of my friends and it was an incredible value!! We had an outdoor shower that had views of the surrounding grounds, a huge tub inside, a very comfortable bed and a lovely patio off the back!
Breakfast was Great! And our guided safaris, twice each day were spectacular! Our Ranger was so knowledgeable and thoughtful! He would always remember to bring coffee, tea and biscuits for our rides at dawn and allowed us to bring a "roadie or two" for our evening and sunset rides!
The swimming pool was a great relief in the hot afternoons!I hope to return someday, because this was a trip of a lifetime and the Ivory Tree Game Lodge made it all the more enjoyable!
The Ivory Tree Game Lodge combines a small scale conference venue with great catering possibilities and fantastic accommodation, with great hospitality and well organised activities, like the morning and evening game drives. The ranger is your host throughout the day and that gives a great feeling.
By the way, during our last visit, we could see even the big 6, including cheetah, so we will remember forever.
And yes, the outside shower in your little house at 5 AM in the morning, is magic ... even before the game drive starts ...
We shared a standard room with three adults and still had sufficient space. We very much enjoyed the three days (Monday to Wednesday). Our day schedule was excellent:
- 5am game drive with a 6:30am morning tea at a viewing spot
- 9am tasty breakfast followed by a morning tea outside our lodge
- 1pm tasty lunch followed by a relaxing nap
- 4pm afternoon tea & cake
- 4:30pm game drive with a 6:30pm sundowner drink at a viewing spot
- 7 or 8 pm tasty dinner
........overall this was a very relaxing stay at a great safari lodge! The staff was very friendly and always open for nice chats.
