One of the worlds best classic train journeys, we took the Blue Train from Pretoria to Cape town after our 4 day Safari at Leopard Hills, we had a Super Delux carrage with double bed and even a bath, yes full size which was a nice treat to soak whilst drinking bubbly. The staff are brilliant and very attentive, the food is first class with a good wine list. We stopped at the big hole diamond mine, thankfully the shops was closed!! A must when visiting SA.

The Blue Train was the ultimate in luxury. We had our own butler, David, who was there for our every need. He could not have been kinder or more efficient. He obviously knows what his passengers appreciate. We met the Manager, Herbert Pinslot, who spent quite a bit of time talking to us and answering our questions. The food was magnificent and the service impeccable. Thank you so much!

The Blue Train lives up to its reputation as one of the finest luxury trains in the world. From check in at an exclusive lounge at the Cape Town station to the well equipped 'suites' complete with wifi and showers, the panoramic observation car, exquisite food with an endless supply of the very best wines available, attentive and well trained personnel including personal butlers - it cannot be faulted. The beds were very comfortable and the air suspension ensured a very smooth ride. On top of all this, the scenery on the 25 hour trip is breathtaking.

The Blue Train is an experience of a lifetime. It is old world charm, elegance and luxury. A long forgotten form of travel which is a must to experience in this day and age. From start to finish it was amazing. We were treated like royalty. The constantly changing view as you travelled made you want to stay up and watch. The dining was great....we were catered for as vegetarians. The glass carriage was wonderful to sit and watch the view but was the best for traveling through the many tunnels not the journey from Pretoria to Cape Town. Our butler and waiter made our experience all the more personalized as they knew what our needs were. I would go again if I had the opportunity. A South African Gem!

We thought it was a magic experience from the minute we dropped our bags off at Cape Town station. The train departed on the dot of 08:30 as advertised. Service was "par excellence". Food was a gastronomic delight. Arrived 1 hour late but had been warned in advance that one could be up to 3 hours late depending on weather. Scenery around Paarl and Wellington was awesome. To the detractors: Room size was adequate or if too small there was an entire observation coach. Trains do go clickety-clack and that is half the fun otherwise fly.

We took the Blue Train, owned by the South African government, from Johannesburg to Cape Town. We knew what kind of service to expect when we arrived and saw a red carpet leading to the lounge. We were not disappointed. The suite (sleeper) was nicely furnished, including fresh flowers. The service, the food, the staff were all top notch. A coat and tie were necessary for dinner. The dinner table had 4 crystal goblets and 10 pieces of silverware per dinner. The butler was there for all of your needs. All of the staff was friendly and couldn't do enough to accommodate you and make sure you had a great trip. You are treated as someone special. We felt as though we were in a different age. The train enabled you to see the countryside, from shack villages to wineries. We even stopped for a side trip to a diamond mine ( owned by De Beers) that is currently nonoperational . We left the station and arrived in Cape Town on time. The experience was unforgettable... we felt like we were on a train from yesteryear. Our pleasant journey ended with a nice surprise; a going away gift and box of chocolates but the memories will continue.

We traveled this Train this year, the staff on board were very friendly and very efficient. The Cabin was compact but luxurious and well designed with a nice bathroom, having a bath on a moving train so quite an experience! They did turn down the bed to early, so I asked our butler to reinstate the day room, which they did. Too much good food and copious amounts of alcohol. All in all a fantastic experience!

After doing a 3 day conference with clients in Pretoria, we did an evening "Circle" trip on the Blue Train. From the moment you arrive at Pretoria station, the red carpet is rolled out. At the station lounge, you 1st are treated to Champagne and snacks. You are then escorted to the train, and once aboard, you can relax in one of the 5 star lounges. Canapés and cocktails are served as the train slowly makes it way out of the station. If you wish, at the rear of the train is an observation coach where you can relax, enjoy a drink and watch the rail-track fade in the distance. Dinner is served in the spotlessly clean dining car. The waiter presents you with the menu and wine list, and the table is presented with cutlery and utensils is of top quality. The wine list is absolutely stunning, listing top quality wines. The dinner is top quality fine dinning, and you leave there feeling "WOW!". The whole experience is possibly the best train journey one will ever experience...luxury at it's very best.

My first vacation on a sleeper and wow - it was amazing. And I was so pleased we had a 30 minute delay outside Cape Town because you just don't want the journey to end.The great stuff included: 1. Fellow passengers - this is S. Africa so the passengers talk to each other and they were all such an interesting bunch 2. Staff - friendly and helpful 3. Food - first rate, not too much and not too little 4. Scenery - ever changing, my only complaint would be that the best scenery in the Cape goes past too fast, but I don't think you can do much about the topography! 5. Kimberley mine - very informative tour of the Kimberly diamond mineThe only bad thing was the internet connection. For much of the journey there is no connectivity. When you can connect it is very slow (a lot of pages don't load). The allowance on each Wi-Fi code is very low (50 MB) so I got through 5 tokens despite only being connected 20 % of the time.I would totally recommend the Blue Train to family and friends, I might even treat my parents for their wedding anniversary - everyone should experience the trip.
