Accommodation

Accommodation at Camdeboo National Park is as follows:

Four rustic furnished tents provide a relaxed nature experience. Each tent has 2 single beds, a braai area, fridge, table, and two chairs. Bedding and towels are provided. There is a communal kitchen with a kettle, stove plates, utensils, a microwave and chest freezer. Tents are booked as individual units but there is also a communal braai area for group use. Communal showers and toilets are provided.

Fifteen tent or caravan sites are situated within natural bush on gravel. Each site has a braai unit and power outlet A communal kitchen provides deep freeze, stovetop and microwave facilities while the communal ablutions have showers, toilets and a universally accessible unit.

Activities & Facilities

Activities available to guests include game and bird viewing, viewpoints in the Valley of Desolation, trails and walks, 4x4 trails (4x4 compulsory), watersports which include boating, canoeing, fishing, and windsurfing which are allowed on the dam (permit fees apply).
Facilities: There are six picnic areas in the park, each with braais and ablution facilities. You cannot buy fuel in the park, no restaurant, shop or ATM. The closest fuel station is at Graaff-Reinet about 5km away.

Important Information

It’s very hot in summer (October to March), with temperatures well into the mid-30s degrees Celsius or higher, visitors are advised to confine their activities for the cool early morning or late afternoons. The park is also very cold in winter (around 5-8 degrees Celsius), especially in June and July, and sometimes there’s snow in the high-lying areas.
Camping base rates include one motorized vehicle per campsite. Additional motorized vehicles per campsite are charged at a rate equivalent to the campsite base rate per night.
No drones are permitted in the park.
Outdoor lighting is limited, touch or headlamp is required at night

Wildlife

Camdeboo is not a Big 5 reserve but there are plenty of animals to be seen with a list of 43 mammal species. The game viewing area situated on the plains north of the Nqweba Dam which is home to buffalo, eland, black wildebeest, gemsbok, red hartebeest, blesbok, and springbok. The higher-lying areas provide the ideal habitat for klipspringer, the endangered Cape mountain zebra, and mountain reedbuck.  Over 250 bird species have been recorded across the national park.

Directions

To Reception: Nqweba Campsite and Lakeview Tented Camp:
The gate is four kilometers out of Graaff-Reinet off the N9 to Middleburg.

To the Valley Of Desolation and Game Viewing Area:
The gate is reached 5km out of Graaff-Reinet on the R63 to Murraysburg.

The nearest international airport is in Cape Town and the nearest domestic airport in Port Elizabeth.

From Cape Town, take the N1 highway towards Beaufort West. Pass through the town of Beaufort West and then turn right onto the R61 to Aberdeen. At Aberdeen, take the N9, left towards Graaff-Reinet.

• Beaufort West to Graaff-Reinet = 209 km.
• Cape Town to Graaff-Reinet = approx. 600 km.

From Port Elizabeth, take the R75 to Jansenville and Graaff-Reinet.

• Port Elizabeth to Graaff-Reinet = 251 km.
