Migrations Expedition Camp nestles in the Nxai Pan National Park in Botswana. The area comprises of forests, savanna woodland and open grassland - the perfect landscape to support an abundance of wildlife. The Nxai area is well-known for its dark mane Kalahari lions, large herds of elephants and the annual Zebra Migration. With some luck, you could also catch a glimpse of rarer wildlife species such as leopard, brown hyena and wild dogs.
The solar-powered camp boasts 6 luxurious canvas Tents with comfortable beds, private outdoor bucket showers, flush toilets and a verandah overlooking the bushveld. There are two additional Meru-style tents in the center of the camp which function as a guest lounge and dining area.
Your time at Migration Expeditions Camp is spent exploring the park on morning and afternoon game drives which are led by a professional team of rangers. You set out in search of the famous Kalahari lions, big game and the Zebra Migration. Nxai Pan is a birder's delight, with over 200 species recorded in the park. The sightings are particularly good from November to March.
The Zebra Migration is the longest in Africa, covering a distance of more than 1000 kilometers. The migration occurs in the protected land of the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area, with the herd generally seen in Nxai Pan during the summer months of December to February. The herd is mostly seen in the pan itself and stay for around 80 days, depending on the rainfall. Predator sightings during this period are particularly good because they are often seen preying on the weak and younger members of the herd.
Guests also have an opportunity to visit the Baines Baobabs: century-old baobabs that were discovered by explorers Thomas Baines and John Chapman in 1862 when trekking across Botswana in search of Victoria Falls. The baobabs were the focus of Baine's famous painting.
