"Pitse Lodge brought us the most personalized safari experience ever! Managed by a very dedicated young couple, Kirstie and Haydn, this lodge is situated in the South of Welgevonden. As this is a very specific area of Welgevonden, we recommend a stay combined with a lodge more up North in the park to get a good notice of the diversity of the Welgevonden Area. Location of Pitse is excellent: great views over the plains with game just crossing by and passing the lodge. Food was excellent and based on our personal wishes (including great house wine). In fact all the staff (Pieter!) were friendly, helpful and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble, we really felt at home. After our evening safaris a camp fire, two seats and a two glasses of wine were waiting for us. Rooms were very (very!) spacious, clean and with great views as well. Experienced ranger Haydn showed great knowledge of the area and game, and making all our safaris tailor made. We even ran into a leopard during one of the drives, lucky us. Special notice is the exclusive use of this lodge. It’s a very special feeling not having to worry about your stuff scattering around for a single minute, since it’s only you in the camp! End of story is that we are 100% sure of coming back in the near future!"

"Upon our arrival at the lodge, we were welcomed by the complete staff, waiting outside by the front door. That alone already felt great. Included were 4 game drives, with Haydn, the ranger. Such a nice guy, very patient and highly knowledgeable. Good fun! There were 4 pairs of binoculars in the jeep, for us to use. Great! The main building is grand! The rooms are great, spacious, fire place, en-suite bathroom with both shower and a bath, and.... a lovely outdoor shower! We (two couples) stayed for two nights. Fantastic big terrace/veranda, with binoculars put up, which we loved to use. All meals were served outside. The food was great, it was a lot, it was wonderful! Our unforseen 'bonus' was on that Sunday afternoon... mother cheetah teaching her two youngsters to hunt for food... they chased two waterbucks... the kill didn't work out. Unfortunately, for the cheetah's, but such an adrenaline rush for us to view this from such short distance of the dining table outside! At night, walking from the main building to our room, the path was lit by candles... do I need to say more? The Pitse Lodge is a place we highly recommend, and we'll be back!!!"

"We have been to many game lodges in SA, but this one is definitely the best we have seen. Rooms are extremely spacious and very close to the wildlife, you can invite rhinos to your patio. The guests have exclusive use to the whole lodge, which make you feel really at home, and spoiled by the wonderful staff. Christie and Haydn and team really take care of everything, and in general everything is there before you could ask. Food was great and the game drives by Haydn offer a lot of surprises, including a barbecue in the bush, This place is really special!"

"We went as a family of 3 generations and had a fantastic stay at Pitse. Christie, Haydn and the staff left no stone unturned if their efforts to ensure we had an enjoyable visit. Pitse is perfectly suited to a group who wish to take an entire lodge. The rooms are extremely comfortable, food very good, and the timings and duration of game drives are flexible to suit guests."

"My family stayed at Pitse in February 2013, and I cannot rave enough about the experience we had! Pitse is an exclusive lodge, meaning your party is the only group at the lodge during your stay. I was floored when we pulled up and the whole staff was lined up to greet us with refreshments and hot towels. It was beyond my expectations! Pitse is also a rarity- a family friendly lodge. Access to the living areas is protected, which was important to me, as my 3 year old likes to roam. Some parts are "open access" to the savannah, so you still get the thrill of zebra or rhinos visiting nearby as you relax by pool or campfire with a glass of wine. Our party included 4 children: ages 2, 3, 4 and 6, and this was one of a few lodges who allowed children of any age on game drives. Because it is an exclusive lodge, we were able to bring the kids on every game drive without worry of inconveniencing other guests, and it went amazingly. We saw elephants, rhinos, lions, hippos and so much more! Hayden, the ranger, tailored each drive to our preferences, and was so knowledgeable. We really felt like part of the family. The Pitse lodge is owned by a family of conservationists, carrying on the legacy of the patriarch. You truly have a luxurious, private feel here. It is family friendly, but not "kiddy". There is nothing Disneyland about it. Our children ate the same amazing meals as the adults, though since it is exclusive the staff can accommodate any picky eater. The reserve offers great variety of game viewing within a short (mostly perfectly paved) journey from Johannesburg. When you are there, you feel as if you are the only group around. We rarely saw other vehicles, making it seem like we were the only ones there. We explored grasslands, forested areas, rivers and mountains... big 5, large game, small game and beautiful birds. There were quiet, misty mornings and blazing, fiery sunsets, close elephant encounters and comical warthog retreats. Kudos to Christy and Hayden for maintaining a gem of a lodge and making us feel so special. It was a once in a lifetime trip for us and we cannot thank you enough for making it unforgettable."

"Wow, what an incredible experience! Was it the scenery, was it the detail in attention, was it the star class food, was it the cheetah near kill just in front of us at the lodge? I really don't know. I guess it was it all that gave us, a party of 4, a very very special feeling. The attention given to us by Christy and staff, the skilled and so enthusiastic game drives with Hayden words fail to compliment them. Is Pitse Lodge to be recommended? Oh yes indeed. Do yourself a big (5) favor, skip Kruger and head for Welgevonden game reserve. Expensive? Yes? Worth it? Yes, every cent."

"We got married at Pitse Lodge in 2011. With just a minister, his wife as photographer and witness, Ranger Haydn as witness and his wife Christie as caterer, wedding day planner and maid of honor helping my wife get dressed. The staff of Paulina, Pieter and the rest singing to us afterwards. An elephant walking by during the day and late at night. The most wonderful experience of our life time!!! Mere words cannot describe it. Thank you all so much!"
