"Fantastic room, very personal service. Excellent staff and great hosts. Well-guided wild-life tours by highly experienced guides. Small hotel, wonderful location. Excellent food. Stunning proximity to real wildlife."

- Martin

"This was our 4th stay here and we had an amazing time. Pondoro is a stunning place to stay the food is excellent and the owners and staff are wonderful. We would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. We are looking forward to returning in December 2016."

"Loved everything about our visit, we highly recommend Pondoro for a luxurious & extreme adventure experience! Surprise & delights are around every corner from both the variety of animals observed to the unexpected memorable moments created by this attentive & personable staff. We had so much fun! We chose the Water suite which we loved. It's very spacious, beautifully decorated, includes thoughtful appointments & is completely private with wide views of the Olifants River and all the animals attracted to it. Guide & driver Julius with Tracker Eric worked diligently each outing to hunt for the animals, educate us about each species lifestyle habits and instilled confidence in their abilities to keep us safe. The owners, Robby & Lize, along with their attentive and friendly staff, greatly contributed to our experience with excellent personalized service. We felt spoiled beyond belief and pampered in every way! The cuisine is beautifully & creatively presented and absolutely delicious! Each meal was a delightful experience. The lodge area is undisturbed in its natural setting which attracts the wildlife to wander through. If you have the opportunity to stay at Pondoro, you are in for a great experience and wonderful adventure!"

"We had such a fantastic stay at Pondoro. From the moment Robbie picked us up and we were welcomed by Tanya, we were made to feel part of Pondoro. The lodge is gorgeous and our suites more than matched our high expectations. Rul and Andres what a great combination! They tracked the most amazing animals from the wild dogs killing a duiker to a leopard watching close by, to seeing both the black and the white rhinos, we were so very lucky. The food was absolutely outstanding, each day we had a wide choice and it was served and presented so beautifully and always with a smile! I would also recommend a trip to see Lilli at the spa, she has magic fingers! The team at Pondoro really does feel like a family and they all obviously love their jobs with everyone you see smiling and taking time to speak to you, nothing is too much trouble. This was a special trip for us and they made so much effort to make it a reality, thank you all so much. We will be recommending Pondoro and if you want a personal experience created by people who love what they do and also deliver, Pondoro is for you."

"Three amazing days in the heart of the bush. Pondoro is a stunning place. The staff driven by Lize and Robbie is efficient and very kind, the location is quiet and perfect with a view to the river where all kind of wild animals come to drink. We had 2 fantastic drives with Sam our ranger and Ransom the tracker each day at the sunrise and the sunset. We enjoyed Lili's massages at the spa during the day. It was the perfect place to rest and relax. It would be great to come back with our children."

- Christian

"To sit on the veranda of your room and to watch the wildlife along the Olifant River is an unbelievable experience. We made wonderful safaris and saw the big five. The service of the lodge is very warm and friendly. We felt as friends, not as guests."

"Where do I start! Best week of travel in my life... Everything about this place is exceptional. Right in the heart of the Balule private game reserve on the banks of the Olifants river nestled amongst the trees. I was in the Buffalo suite, right up the end, and it was simply amazing to say the least, huge and beautifully appointed. All the staff, Janni, Tania, Lillian and all the other staff are superb. They really make you feel at home. Lize and Robbie where only there a few nights of my stay as they where off collecting yet another well deserved hotel award. Rul and Andres are a top notch Tracker / Ranger combo and pull out all the stops to get you up close and personal to all the animals and are so knowledgeable about all the wildlife and nature in the area, and do it with a cheeky sense of humor. They really made the whole experience special. The food is top notch, dining room staff are great and the dining deck is superb, just watch your muffins at breakfast as the Vervet monkeys love them if you leave them unattended. We got surprised on two of the nights by amazing dinner set up down by the river which blew me away. They really know how to make the experience special. Great wine and beer list too. If I could rate it more than 5/5 I would. Can't wait to go back again soon."

- Sam

"The welcome, service and overall attention to every requirement was fantastic. Our suite was extremely comfortable despite the unseasonal heat. It was lovely to hear the hippos snorting in the river and to have elephants and bush buck feeding below the deck. The game drive sightings were beyond our expectations with marvelous lion and leopard sightings. The food was meticulously prepared and presented and you never leave Pondoro hungry! We were sad to leave after our 5 nights and will definitely be back when we can manage it."

- Richard

"Game drives are mostly about the animals and our visit to The Pondoro Game Lodge in Balule did not disappoint. We saw elephants, black and white rhinos, water buffalo and lions all on the first afternoon. We were close and especially enjoyed the baby elephant and baby hyenas we saw. But the highlight of the drives was a pride of 8 lions all walking together searching for food. They walked within 5 feet of our land cruiser. Robbie, one of the owners, and Sam were absolutely first rate guides. But what set Pondoro apart was the accommodations on a beautiful vista overlooking a river. Each room was uniquely appointed, called Earth or Water or Tree or Rock, all with views of the river and privacy screens. There was an outdoor shower and a jacuzzi outside as well. Exquisite. The food was outstanding. Lize, the other owner and chef, served creative meals that accounted for every detail - taste, variety, garnishes, etc. All meals were served on a tree covered deck both beautiful and comfortable. I can't imagine a better safari experience."

"Pondoro was recommended to us by a friend, and now we know why. I can't imagine going anywhere else for a safari. We came to Pondoro for our honeymoon, and were so pleased with the romantic atmosphere, stunning game drives and incredible food. Game Drives - We saw Big 5 in one drive (rare, but we got lucky)! Our ranger and tracker were incredibly knowledgeable and we came away with a greater respect for the bush. We saw everything we wanted to and more. I can't say enough good things about the drives. Food - It was as if we were dining at a 5 star restaurant the entire time we were there. The food was incredible, fresh, healthy, and unique. A great mix of game and traditional African dishes - and enough variety to please everyone. Spa - My husband got a massage and raved about it. Accommodations - Our suite was beautiful, overlooking the Olifants River. We could come home to monkeys on the roof, elephants outside our deck, or great views of animals on the river. Absolutely blown away by the beauty of the rooms - very luxurious! Staff - Pondoro is truly a family. When we left, we felt like we were saying goodbye to our good friends. They take such great care of you and no detail is left unturned. I would recommend to go for at least 3 nights, so you don't have to stress about seeing all the animals. The lodge is about an hour from Hoedspruit airport, so it was very easy to get to. This was also one of the best value lodges in the area, and was worth more than double of what we paid!"
