"Everything about Umlani meant that it was a truly magical part of our honeymoon - the friendly and helpful staff; the fantastic lodge surroundings, which allowed you to feel very close to the natural environment around you; the fabulous food; and most importantly the spectacular game drives, led by extremely skilled rangers and trackers. We could not have asked for more."
"We really enjoyed our three night stay here, all of the staff were friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. The location is great, with a great view of the water hole, providing many a wildlife viewing opportunity. We made many friends during our short stay and enjoyed the friendly ambiance of the camp. The food was excellent and hopefully one day we can return"
"We normally don't return to a place we have visited before but for Umlani we made an exception and we were not disappointed. We were lucky enough to be staying in Rondavel No 8 again and thank goodness it has not changed. It is so nice to have the outdoor African shower and to be able to lay in your bed listening to the wildlife waking you up in the early morning. All our game drives were different and fantastic. We saw the Big 5 several times over, the white Lioness on our first evening game drive and 8 sightings of which 6 were different Leopards, 3 males and 3 females. Thank you Sinhle and Cabinate for your expert tracking and knowledge. We will never forget some of the sightings we saw and things we did, especially the heart pounding for us, Rhino tracking on foot which was successful. We still ponder how Sinhle spotted Marula up a tree in the distance, when other vehicles had passed by just before without and then being able to get so close to such a beautiful animal. We also spent a wonderful two hours in the tree house at Marco's dam, where we saw lots of animals come down for a drink and we were able to get some lovely photos of them. All the staff are so friendly and make you feel part of a big family. A special thank you to Nanette, Thembi and Joana for looking after us so well in camp and also for the lovely food we had at every mealtime. We would recommend anyone to visit Umlani and experience a safari how it should be."
"Exceeded my expectations! Was a little nervous about not having electricity, but ended up loving the rustic conditions. Our guide, Adam, and tracker, Ephram, were amazing! We saw the Big 5 within 24 hrs. The animals we so oblivious to us; we were able to very close to them. I already miss seeing the "elephant family reunion" at the treehouse, going off-road into the bush, to track the leopard, and our nightly sunset drinks (Amarula). Would love to return!"
"I had a wonderful three day visit at Umlani in the end of September. The camp is powered only by the sun and you are able to get wifi at the reception area. The accommodation is very convenient with flushing toilets and private bathrooms. With two game drives a day I got multiple sightings of the big five as well as other animals, small and large. Grab some music or a podcast and sit on the porch overlooking the waterhole, watch the animals and relax. You can also go on a bush walk or hang out in the tree house."
"We saw the big 5 in less than 24 hours. Really excellent experience, the shower under a full moon wow something I will never forget. The knowledge of the rangers is absolutely mind blowing. We would surely go back to Umlani with our kids."
"Stayed 5 nights at Umlani and I cannot recommend highly enough - it was worth every penny (as many others have said) and it's a combination of the people (staff and fellow visitors) and the location that make it so good. We (2 adults, 2 kids, age 12 and 9) stayed in a family cabin which was really lovely - comfortable beds, amazing open air bathroom. The food is brilliant too (we're vegetarian and there was always a delicious option), Goodness and the other chefs explain the dishes and it's a real pleasure to enjoy what they create. However, the highlight was the game drives and the treehouse... We did eight game drives each completely different to the last in terms of route and animals but always to the same exciting and high standard. We were looked after by Amos and Andrew (Ranger and Tracker) who made every trip incredible and ensured we saw lots, felt comfortable but also made it feel like an adventure - such good fun. They did a brilliant job engaging the kids (of all ages) - really can't praise them highly enough. We spent a couple of afternoons (just for a couple of hours) out at the tree house which was really beautiful and peaceful - watching the animals come to the waterhole to drink - the deck overlooking the waterhole at the lodge is equally as nice a place to hang out in the afternoon too but I'd really recommend going to the treehouse - we didn't stay the night there (I'm too much of a wuss) and those that did enjoyed it a lot - maybe next time :) Greg, Rouxle and Joanna coordinate everything and make you feel like extended family while you are there (without you feeling you've not got your own space - of which there is plenty). They've got some brilliant tales from their experiences in the bush. Despite the eco-spirit of Umlani (no electricity - some solar powered charge points which are more than adequate) it's incredibly luxurious and the staff make it even more so by being so attentive (hot water bottles at night and for the dawn game drives were brilliant). I wouldn't hesitate to go back and although the usual length of trip for people seemed to be 3 nights I reckon doing a couple of extra nights really let you settle into the place."
"Very good service from all staff and management. Felt very welcome. The game drives were amazing, highly skilled rangers and trackers and great team work between lodges on game drives. Thanks very much."

"We had a great stay at Umlani. People GREAT, very accommodating. Practical food so don't expect gourmet meals. We were there for the game drives not 5 star meals. Great drivers, trackers, managers and staff. We stayed in the tree-house one night. Wish we were there right now. Dreaming of Umlani!!!!!!"

"We had stayed at Umlani for 3 days 2 nights, and what was interesting about this place is the eco friendly system they had. Limited wifi hours (which transcend to higher frequency of interaction between visitors). Low usage of electricity (Minimal usage of modern lights). night lighting are by the used of oil lamp and the bush camp had consolidated the charging of cams and phones in one area so things centralised and lesser wastage. Room 4 faced directly to the pool and we were told there has been frequent visit by animals during the night for water. Be prepared and armed yourself with the camera during lunch time (or earlier) . get to the deck where lunch will be served and you will be greeted by the animals coming in their groups to the watering hole. Well hosted by the camp overall. Staff were friendly, food was good which was served in the well night ambience especially during the night. Bring a small torch , which might aid you in moving about easier. Game drive was well explained by the ranger and trekker. 2 drives and we have been fulfilled by the BIG 5 sightings. Bring bino for bird watchers."
