The Detail
Giraffe Manor is an exclusive boutique hotel located in the Langata suburb of Nairobi, Kenya. It is the accommodation of choice for travelers before or after a Masai Mara or Serengeti safari.
As one of Nairobi’s most iconic buildings, Giraffe Manor has extraordinary appeal. It is set in 12 acres of private land within 140 acres of indigenous forest, harking back to the 1930s when European visitors flocked to East Africa to enjoy safaris. With its stately façade, elegant interior, verdant gardens, sunny terraces, and charming courtyards, Giraffe Manor offers a unique experience. A particularly fascinating element of your stay will involve its resident herd of Rothschild giraffe, who may visit in the morning and evening, sometimes poking their long necks through windows in search of a treat, before retreating back to their forest sanctuary.
The hotel’s 12 rooms each boast their own distinct personality, elegant furnishings, and Art Deco features.
A short stroll across the property’s lawns brings you to the AFEW Giraffe Centre, where you can learn about these beautiful and endangered creatures and enjoy a guided walk around the sanctuary. The Manor can also arrange a variety of optional local excursions for guests.

Giraffe Manor is a property-style lodge (not a game-drive camp) — children of all ages are welcome. Two Superior Family Suites (Karen Blixen Suite and Finch Hatton Suite) are configured for families, each with two en-suite bedrooms and giraffe-feeding terrace access; Finch Hatton's mezzanine twin beds are suitable for children only (6ft) and cannot accommodate adults. The Retreat at Giraffe Manor does not offer child rates — only minimum room rates apply, and full rate is charged for children 3+ on The Retreat Pass and Early Bird Package. Extra children in day rooms will not be provided with an extra bed. At The Retreat, children of all ages may use the 21m infinity pool when supervised, but the gym, hot tub, steam room and sauna have a minimum age of 12 for safety.
Water safari
Out on the water.
Mokoro, canoe, kayak and boat options at Giraffe Manor. The silent dugout mokoro is a different product to a motorised sundowner cruise — check the category on each.
Kayak
River Kayaking & Tubing
Guests at Siruai can kayak and tube in the river beneath the waterfall pool, combining a wild-swimming adventure with paddling in a remote, wildlife-rich corner of Kenya — hippos, elephant and more can be encountered along the way.
