Overview

The 26 000 acre Exeter Private Game Reserve hugs the western bank of the Sand River and share unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park. World-renowned, and fashioned around an experience of "the Africa of old", this reserve maintains high standards of comfort and luxury. It is known internationally for its diversity of wildlife - from Big Five sightings to endangered wild dog.

With its luxurious overtones and colonial air, Kirkman's Kamp creates a relaxed and social family atmosphere, where guests can surround themselves with the style and accommodation of an era long since past. Constructed in the early 1920’s, Kirkman's Kamp retains a sense of homestead-era hospitality and authentic wildlife adventure found in very few places today.

The original homestead of Harry Kirkman has been beautifully restored; the 18 charming Cottages overlook the bushveld and beautiful lawns surround the lodge and swimming pool, with spectacular views of the unspoiled landscape surrounding the Sand River. Private verandas attached to each suite offer a secluded spot to drink in the breathtaking views. Old-fashioned bedsteads combine seamlessly with modern comfort and souvenirs of bygone years to create a nostalgic safari atmosphere. Generous claw-foot bathtubs complete the picture, while stand-alone showers in each room provide an up-to-date touch.

The lodge facilities include a swimming pool, library, open-air boma, safari shop, bar, dining area, wellness center, laundry service, child minding services and Wi-Fi access in the public areas.

Guests to Kirkman's Kamp have a variety of activities and planned outings laid before them. Included in the visit are open vehicle morning and evening game drives and professionally guided bush walks through the unfenced wild of the park, under the hands of experienced Shangaan trackers, exciting, spotlit night game drives, and excellent bird viewing.

Kirkman's Kamp boasts ubiquitous clusters of the Big 5, as well as various other animals, all of which are have become accustomed to groups of tourists - making game viewing a pleasure. Grey duiker, kudu, bushbuck impala, common waterbuck, and nyala, elephant, white rhino, buffalo, and giraffe are all also common to the area. There are also 303 bird species native to this area and are a regular snapshot delight - especially on guided walking tours of the area.

Kirkman's Kamp is ideal for solo explorers, couples and families looking for a luxury safari getaway.

Reviews

The team were great for us, especially after we provided some negative feedback after our first day. value for money is hard to achieve after about $250 pp per night. the bed was great, the food was good and the property is fabulously decorated. What makes it great is the reinvestment into wildlife conservation and better living standards for local Africans, and long term, reliable, humane jobs for the staff. Keep up the good work.
