Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve is well known for its scenic beauty and dramatic rock formations typical of the Cedarberg, has a rich cultural heritage with hundreds of Bushman/San rock paintings or rock art of up to 6000 years old and is a unique safari in South Africa.

Feel the spirit of the ancient San Bushmen enter the mind body and soul, listen to the peaceful silence, see and appreciate the unbelievable natural beauty, for Kagga Kamma Private Game Reserve is truly an exceptional retreat.

Nestled between dramatic sandstone formations, Kagga Kamma Private Game Reserve comprises of extraordinary accommodation which includes 5 stunning thatched hut-style round rooms, and 10 exclusive cave suites harmoniously blending into the rocks.  Alternatively, weather permitting, guests can opt for the one of a kind open-air sleeping space situated on a remote rocky projection.  What a special and luxurious way to fall asleep under the clear night skies with the stars and the crackling fire taking the place of bedside lamps.  This accommodation is perfect for the honeymoon couple to cuddle up in the sumptuous bed and enjoy total privacy.  Each of the stunningly decorated and furnished cave suites and round rooms feature an opulent en-suite bathroom and cosy private terrace, a wonderful spot for enjoying the awesome views.

Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast and lunch in the restaurant, and for dinner feast on traditional South African cuisine served in the boma under the phenomenal starry night skies.  Have a glass of selected Cape wine to compliment the meal, and afterwards have a night cap in the friendly inviting bar before retiring.  Browse in the well-stocked on-site curio shop, swim a few laps in the sparkling pool cradling in the peaceful gardens surrounded by fascinating rock protrusions, or enjoy a rejuvenating massage, blissful Fynbos steam treatment, and indulging facial in the wonderful health and beauty spa.  Kagga Kamma Private Game Reserves' unique tranquil setting is a paradise for a memorable wedding ceremony and as a conference venue.  The Bushmen Lodge offer state-of-the-art equipped for conferences as well as excellent catering services.

Kagga Kamma is situated in the south-eastern region of the Cederberg, in Swartruggens district. This region was home to the Bushmen for centuries. The red-brown weathered sandstone formations seen here are typical to the Cederberg. Plants are described as drier mountain Fynbos and you can see for miles and miles because the area is largely treeless. A variety of shrubs dominate the area, including Southern Cone Marigold, Klaaslouwbos, Koringbos, Renosterbos, Sneeubos, Wolwedoring, Taaibos and Skilpadbessie. Some Protea species, typical to the Cape, can be found in higher parts.

Kagga Kamma is home to many different wild animals. The Burchell's Zebra and Antelope species including Eland, Gemsbuck, White-Tailed Gnu, Blue Wildebeest, Bontebok, Springbok, Grey Rhebok, Duiker, Klipspringer and Steenbuck are most common.

Kagga Kamma is also home to many bird species. On the open plains large birds like Ostrich, Secretary bird and Kori Bustard can be seen. Closer to the Lodge we find the Cape Robin, Cape Bulbul, Cape Sparrow and House Sparrow. During winter and spring, Egyptian Geese, Red Billed Teal, Black Duck and South African Shelduck are seen near open water. Among the most typical sounds of the veld at Kagga Kamma are those produced by the noisy Black Bustard and the Namaqua Sand Grouse, with its typical call of 'kelkiewyn', an apt reminder that the time for a sundowner approaches.

We booked one of the most beautiful…
We booked one of the most beautiful trips we've ever had through Safari.com. The service was excellent and uncomplicated. They catered to special requests, booked additional flights, and the accommodation (Simbavati River Lodge) was simply unbelievably beautiful. Our expectations were far exceeded, and we can only recommend Safari.com. We will definitely book our next vacation through Safari.com and recommend it to our friends. Many thanks, Nelia & Catherine!
