The elegant Singita Ebony Lodge is the founding lodge of the premier Singita brand. Nestled beneath old jackalberry trees on the banks of the Sand River, the award-winning Ebony Lodge exudes a sense of homeliness, inspired by traditional African colonial style. While the lodge may appear unassuming, it offers sumptuous luxury imbued with understated glamour and elegance. Soft colors and rich textures create an atmosphere of warmth and tranquility. Accommodation at the elegant Ebony Lodge consists of twelve luxury suites. Two of these include two bedrooms, while the remaining ten are single-bedroom suites. The opulent suites are designed to ensure privacy and maximize stunning views.

All bedrooms are en suite, featuring both indoor and outdoor showers. Each suite includes double-sided fireplaces and a spacious living area that opens onto an elevated timber viewing deck with a heated plunge pool. The two-bedroom suites are ideal for families, offering an added dining and lounge area. Families can reserve these suites as ‘a lodge within a lodge,’ an arrangement that includes a private Land Rover, guide, chef, and butler.

The main lodge features a comfortable lounge, bar area, and reference library. Ebony Lodge is renowned for its exceptional cuisine, service, and magnificent wine cellar. Guests can enjoy personalized wine tastings conducted by the lodge sommelier. During the day, meals are served on the deck overlooking the Sand River and rugged bushveld, or beneath the shady Marula trees. In the evening, starlit dinners are served around a log fire in the boma or in the privacy of the guests’ suites. Children are well catered for with a range of activities, including games, archery, cooking, and a Mini Rangers’ Course.

The tranquil swimming pool area features a gently cascading waterfall and comfortable sun loungers. The Bush Spa offers a variety of revitalizing and relaxing treatments, while the well-equipped gym allows guests to enjoy magnificent views during their workouts.

Qualified rangers lead dawn and dusk game drives in open viewing vehicles, ensuring sightings of both diurnal and nocturnal wildlife. Expert guides and trackers also accompany guests on walking safaris, offering opportunities to track animals on foot and discover the secrets of the plants and landscapes. At night, the crystal-clear skies provide excellent stargazing opportunities.

The Sabi Sand region is one of the world’s most prolific wildlife areas. It is home to the Big Five and is renowned for its big cat activity, particularly leopard sightings. Alongside the Big Five, there is a huge diversity of other mammals. Night game drives provide the chance to see seldom-seen nocturnal creatures, including hyenas, black-backed jackals, porcupines, and honey badgers. Additionally, endangered species such as wild dogs, black rhinos, ground hornbills, and various bat species can be observed in the area.

Sabi Sands is also an excellent birding destination, with more than 300 bird species recorded. Highlights include the Bateleur eagle, Black-bellied bustard, Burchell’s coucal, Shelly’s francolin, Red-billed oxpecker, and Knob-billed duck. Other notable species include the Black-crowned night heron, Emerald cuckoo, Purple heron, and Verreaux’s eagle owl.
