The detail

Sabi Sands is known for its superior safari lodges and Big Five sightings with the varying habitats ensuring a wide diversity of game.  The elegant Singita Ebony Lodge is the founding lodge of the premier Singita brand. Nestled beneath old jackalberry trees on the banks of the Sand River, the award-winning Ebony Lodge is characterised by a sense of homeliness and inspired by traditional African colonial style. The unassuming appearance of the lodge belies the sumptuous luxuriousness imbued with understated glamour and elegance. Soft colours and rich textures create a sense of warmth and tranquillity. Ebony Lodge offers discerning guests the quintessential African safari, accompanied by flawless personalised service.

Accommodation at the elegant Ebony Lodge is provided by twelve luxury suites. Two of these have two bedrooms, and the remaining ten have one. The opulent suites are located to ensure privacy and maximise views.

All of the bedrooms are en-suite, with both indoor and outdoor showers. All suites offer double-sided fireplaces and a spacious living area that opens onto an elevated timber viewing deck with heated plunge pool. The two bedroomed suites are ideal for families, and offer an additional dining and lounge area. They can also be secured as ‘a lodge within a lodge’; an option that includes a private Land Rover and guide, as well as a chef and butler.

The main lodge houses a comfortable lounge, bar area, and reference library. Ebony Lodge is known for its exceptional cuisine, service, and magnificent wine cellar. Personalised wine tastings are conducted for guests by the lodge sommelier. During the day, meals can be taken on the deck overlooking the Sand River and the rugged bushveld, or beneath the shady Marula trees. Starlit dinners are served around a log fire in the boma, or in the privacy of your suite. Children are well catered for with a range of activities including games, archery, cooking, and a Mini Rangers’ Course.

The tranquil swimming pool area has a gently cascading waterfall and comfortable sun loungers. The Bush Spa offers a range of revitalising and relaxing treatments, and guests may enjoy magnificent views while working out in the well-equipped gym.

Qualified rangers lead dawn and dusk game drives in open viewing vehicles, ensuring sightings of both diurnal and nocturnal creatures. Expert guides and trackers accompany guests on walking safaris, which provide a wonderful opportunity to track animals on foot and discover the secrets of the plants and landscapes. At night, crystal clear skies allow for stargazing.

The Sabi Sand region is one of the world’s most prolific wildlife areas. The region is home to the Big Five and famous for its big cat activity. Leopard sightings are common and there is a huge diversity of other mammals. Night game drives reveal seldom seen nocturnal creatures including hyena, black-backed jackal, porcupine, and honey badger.  There are also endangered species to be sighted here, including wild dog, black rhino, Ground hornbill, and ten bat species.

Sabi Sands is a great birding destination, with more than 300 bird species on its list. Notable species include the Bateleur eagle, Black-bellied bustard, Burchell’s coucal, Shelly’s francolin, Red-billed oxpecker, and Knob-billed duck. Other specialties include the Black-crowned night heron, Emerald cuckoo, Purple heron, and Verreaux’s eagle owl.

What our guests say about Sara

So far, great service
This review is for the booking only as we have not taken our trip yet. Safari expert Sara Van Coille has been great to work with. We booked later than we planned and she was able to come up with an itinerary that was perfect for our group. Sara has responded to all our questions and was very quick to get back to me. From our experience so far, we would definitely recommend Safari.com

Experienced a double booking
Before payment, we experienced an issue of double booking, where suddenly our chosen lodging is only available for 2 out of 4 days. I hope Safari.com can improve their system to avoid this in the future. While it will be an inconvenience on our part to have to move lodging half way, we also understand the high demand of the lodging as we make the booking just 5 months before departure. I really appreciate Nelia's quick action informing us and providing an alternative plan which works for us. Overall it was quite a smooth booking process.

Safari.com was helpful start to finish
Safari.com was helpful start to finish. The sign up process was clear, the support was great as we tailored our experience. Directions were perfect to get there. Everything in the safari was as we thought it would be and even better. It literally was the trip of a lifetime and exceeded our expectations.

A superb experience
Dear Jayson, You are a star. The very professional pieces of advice and the optimal design of the schedule that turned our holidays into an extraordinary experience. Thank you so much! Leopard Hills are indeed the boutique luxury camp that you recommended. People there are incredible friendly and knowledgable. The guide was excellent. And the cook, she was a friendly star too. The flight connections went well, despite that rather long drive, and the very early morning start. Wake up calls at 4 AM should be forbidden :) Mauritius was great, Club Med The Plantation Albion was the perfect choice. (The other Club Med @ Cannonier we visited only and were glad we didn’t chose that one…) Thank you again for the superb organisation.
