Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is located adjacent to the oldest desert in the world: the Namib, “the living desert”. The Namib is known for its dramatic landscapes, unspoilt wilderness and endless horizons. The lodge is situated in the Northern foothills of the privately owned NamibRand Nature Reserve, which spans 184 000 ha. It overlooks the rocky outcrops and magnificent dunes that characterise the Sossusvlei region.
The earthy but elegant design of the buildings blends in harmoniously with the landscape. Wraparound verandahs enclose the lodge, which boasts a fire-lit bar, seating area, and mezzanine library. A wooden deck provides the perfect setting for meals or sundowners, overlooking the vast plains, distant mountains, and wandering wildlife.
Ten luxurious stone and glass villas are set against rocky mountains, overlooking the stark desert plains. A fireplace for chilly evenings and air-conditioning for fiery days ensure a comfortable stay in the extreme desert environment. Minimalist décor and massive windows add to the earthy and elegant feel of the rooms. Each unit features a spilt-level bedroom with a king-sized bed, complete with a skylight for star-gazing and a powerful telescope. The glass encased en suite bathroom has both an indoor and an outdoor shower. A private balcony is the perfect spot to lie back and watch the passing wildlife.
Meals are served at both indoor and outdoor dining areas. Fine Pan-African fare is complemented by fine wines from the walk-in cellar. The outdoor dining area is set on a convex deck overlooking the desert and mountains beyond. By arrangement, brunches and dinners can be enjoyed in a dramatic desert location.
The surrounding plains, dunes and mountains beckon explorers to experience the silent tranquillity of the desert or guests can escape the searing heat of the day in the beautiful pool, which is fed by a natural spring. A beauty and wellness therapist is available for an extra dose of relaxation for those that love a massage. As the sun dips below the horizon, a crackling fireplace warms the bar area. Guests can choose to learn about the night sky from the resident astronomer at the lodge’s observatory, which features the country’s second-most powerful electronic telescope.
Guided nature walks and game drives are arranged in the early morning and late afternoon. For the most adventurous guests, the desert can be explored by quad bike or even hot-air balloon, and visits to the Sesriem canyon and Sossusvlei dunes are a must. Specialist photographic safaris are available for photography enthusiasts.
The desert features a unique array of fauna and flora specifically adapted for desert life. A surprising variety of animals live there, including over 115 species of bird, such as sociable weavers, black and martial eagles and the dune lark. Mammals include Oryx, springbok, aardwolf, ostrich, hyena, bat-eared fox, Cape fox, Burchell’s Zebra and Hartman's Mountain Zebra.

"Beyond Expectations! What a unique setting! This place is brilliant. We recently spent 2 nights here. The rooms are fantastic. Clean, private and spacious. The view looks down on a moon landscape where oryx and zebra congregate. The activities are second to none. The visit to the deadvlei/big daddy dune was phenomenal. The food is not gourmet but still of very good quality and standard. The variety was reasonable. The hospitality and professionalism of the staff is the best I have ever come across. I would highly recommend this place."

"Great Lodge at a great location, very attentive staff and knowledgeable Ranger We stayed at the Sossusvlei Desert Lodge for 2 nights. After a warm welcome, we were shown into the room, where each of the ten rooms is a separate building. The room is huge, with a separate terrace for both the sitting/eating table and two chaiselongues on another terrace. The combined living and sleeping room is built in a split level architecture, the bathroom is separate from this. All is well appointed. The view into the desert is unique and stunning."

"Spectacular Sunsets This place, the views & the deafening stillness will take your breath away. The staff are lovely, the rooms and common areas beautifully appointed. The food was good, but could do with a little refinement, particularly when it comes to vegetarian and vegan options. The activities were great and the guides have a good idea of what it is that guests will enjoy. A visit to the dunes is an absolute must as well as some stargazing with the resident astronomer."

"Sossusvlei experience One of the most amazing places to stay with extraordinary good dinning experience. You have opportunity to try wide range of wild meats prepared directly in front of you to your satisfaction. There is a selection of sides and salads to go with. And wide range of desserts you one can only dream about. We enjoyed very much!"
