The luxurious Idube Game Lodge is situated within the private Sabi Sands Game Reserve which is located in the south-western corner of the world-renowned Kruger National Park. The Sabi Sands Game Reserve is famous for big cat sightings, as well as the Big Five. This exclusive and intimate family-owned lodge offers guests an authentic safari experience with its tranquil setting, well-appointed accommodation
The lodge boasts ten spacious chalets and three suites.
The Chalets are all decorated individually and have en-suite bathrooms with a bath, inside and outside showers; hairdryers, safes, Wi-Fi access and private decks. These comfortable rooms offer a safe, cool haven between activities.
The two Makubela Suites and the Leadwood Suite, secluded in the surrounding bush, offer a luxuriously furnished lounge, private timber deck, and pool with comfortable loungers. Each room has its own mini bar, bath, inside and outside shower, hairdryer, safe and wi-fi. Guests can request their choice of minibar drinks, which will be arranged. It's not uncommon for elephants to come close to the pools of the Makubela suites so have your camera ready for an up-close view of these majestic animals.
The lodge has recently been refurbished and a gazebo was added as a great relaxation area from which guests can enjoy spectacular views of the bush from three sides of the lodge.
After exciting game viewing, guests have some free time to either cool off in the sparkling boulder pool or perhaps go for a workout in the well-equipped gym. Idube Game Lodge offers full conference facilities and a romantic setting for a bushveld wedding.
Sumptuous meals are served either on the sheltered timber deck with magnificent views of the surrounding bush and wildlife or in the boma under a canopy of stars. There is nothing like a cold refreshing drink in the bar after an exciting game drive in the African bush.
A gently swaying swing bridge leads from the main lodge to a sunken hide – perfect for viewing a variety of animals that come down to the dam for a drink.
Idube Game Reserve traverses approximately 10 000 hectares of wildlife area. Knowledgeable rangers and skilled Shangaan trackers lead early morning and late afternoon game drives, offering guests up-close encounters with the Big Five. Walking safaris provide a more intimate experience, and offer an opportunity to track game and get up close to the diverse bird, insect and plant life of the reserve. Idube also offers additional activities such as informative wildlife talks, a tracker’s course, visits to the Shangana Cultural Village, and traditional dance performances.
The success of viewing leopard within this area is legendary and guests frequently sight cheetah, hippo, wild dog and a large variety of antelope during their stay.
There are regular sightings of rare species, such as the roan antelope, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and wild dog. Evening game drives reveal the more rarely seen nocturnal creatures, such as porcupine, aardwolf, genet, serval, white-tailed mongoose, bushbaby, civet and brown hyena.
Birdlife is prolific with over 300 species recorded in the reserve. Raptor sightings include Martial, Tawny and Fish Eagles as well as Steppe Buzzards and Spotted eagle owls. Southern Ground Hornbills have nesting sites close to the lodge, and iridescently plumaged birds, such as the Lilac-breasted roller, Southern Carmine Bee-eaters, and Malachite kingfishers are often sighted.

"What a beautiful location! The rooms are lovely and clean, beautiful beds with mosquito netted beds with fans... they even have a option of a outdoor shower! The grounds are gorgeous and we enjoyed watching the Warthogs from our porch. Monkeys and elephants roam in and out of the lodge grounds. The staff were all amazing and happy, food was delicious and we were never left hungry. The pool is in a beautiful setting , it was still a bit too chilly for a swim during our stay but it looked clean and inviting. Game drives did not disappoint! This place was incredible :) we hope to return someday."

"We couldn't have been luckier with what we saw on our game drives, which was largely down to our brilliant tracker and ranger. The Bush walks were also a great experience. Accommodation and team working there were fantastic. Highly recommend the suite option, having an elephant wake you up by drinking out of your pool is something we will never forget. Food good as well."

"We stayed at Idube for three nights in August - my husband and I were there with our two adult sons. The Idube lodge is set in the bush with warthogs, monkeys and antelope happily roaming the grounds . The rooms are comfortable (we were in the standard chalets) and the food good and plentiful . There is a hide across a walkway which looks out on to a water hole where I watched groups of elephant visit to drink daily. The outstanding part of the stay are the game drives which exceeded all our expectations and much more! Matt our ranger and Mark our tracker worked hard to ensure we saw the big five many times over. We also saw wild dogs, hyenas, giraffes and on our last day a cheetah. All the staff were professional and courteous. A big thanks goes to Matt and Mark for the superb game drives - we really were blown away. Also thanks to the staff who arranged a private boma dinner to celebrate my birthday - we loved it !"

"Idube Lodge staff make your visit memorable in a beautiful place. The combination of guides with trackers ensured that we saw incredible animal life and experienced the best of the reserve. We stayed in the Makubela Suite and wandered through Nyalas and Warthogs to get to our room... including a porch and our own pool. An elephant got into the camp one night and did a bit of damage to the grounds, making it feel even more real. Being our anniversary, they went out of their way with a special meal and a treat in our room lit by candles and ending with a bubble bath."

"We were at Indube in June and were absolutely delighted with the entire experience. The staff was friendly and helpful-meals were wonderful. The guides and trackers have an astounding ability to find game- and then - if possible - to position the truck the best way for photos. Watching 8 elephants drink out of our pool was topped only by the casual leopard who strolled through camp while everyone who was there stayed still and enjoyed the magical moment."

"The game drives were superb, greatly exceeding my expectations in terms of the number and quality of the animal sightings, and everything is extremely professional. Our guide Rob was very experienced and knowledgeable and I learnt many interesting things from him. The accommodation is lovely as is the food. I can't recommend this more. It is a very peaceful place too and I shall always remember my visit."

"Stayed at Idube for my first visit to South Africa in early September. The lodge was fantastic with wildlife regularly roaming the grounds. The chalet accommodation was fantastic, so clean and beautifully decorated. The meals prepared and served by the staff were excellent offering so many variations where everyone can find delicious options. The animal drives were beyond my expectations, not only did we see the big 5, but all with their babies. Special thanks to our game drive experts Ronald and Brogan for their dedication ensuring the best viewing experiences possible! I would recommend this lodge and experience to anyone and can’t wait to plan a trip back."

"Our first ever visit to a game reserve exceeded all our expectations. We stayed in one of the Makebula suites. This was superb - very well equipped and on the edge of the lodge, outside the fence. On our second day we got back to our suite after the morning game drive to find twenty elephants drinking from our plunge pool - they entertained us for 15 mins before taking their leave. Absolutely marvelous. The food was really good and eating under the stars around a huge log fire was amazing. The game drives, very professionally led by guide Promise and tracker Lornet left us in awe of their knowledge of the wildlife and animal habits. Never mind the big five, we saw the big twenty and many different birds. We were shown the various animal tracks and had their diets explained by way of a study of the contents of their dung. On our last drive they drove in circles as they were determined to find the wild dogs and hyenas, which we hadn't seen previously. About 15 mins before dark we found them - and the name 'wild dog' doesn't do this animal justice. As if the driving and painstaking tracking wasn't enough, we had sundowners out in the bush in this wonderful landscape. Tips, don't miss a drive, go on the bush walks and don't spend all your time looking through a camera lens - gaze at these majestic beasts for as long as time permits. Thanks to all the team at the reserve. Thank you Promise and Lornet. Animals seen - leopard (with it's kill up a tree), buffalo, kudu, dyker, elephant, lions, cheetah, wildebeest, crocodile, hippos, monkeys, monitor lizard, giraffe (bending down to drink), mongoose, impala, warthog, rhino, waterbuck, hyena, wild dogs and dozens of different birds."

"The animals are amazing and our guides were very entertaining. We saw Leopards, Elephants, Rhino, Lion, Water Buffalo, Hippo, Giraffe, lots of antelopes, baboons water hogs, birds… as well as some more obscure animals like the ‘bush baby’. While the vehicle safari is great, we did particularly enjoy the walking safaris. If you want to see animals, Idube is very good as they use trackers to find animals and then drive off the dirt tracks into the scrub in order to view them up close (not all lodges do this). The people are warm, friendly and tried hard to make our stay memorable… including organising a romantic dinner in the private Boma (bbq) for us! The lodge itself is small and has a really nice relaxed feel. The villas are quite large and very comfortable. It was also special to see many animals freely wandering through the grounds of the lodge (incl antelope, waterhog, and monkeys). The food was very well prepared and by far the best we had in South Africa. They also have some great South African craft beers to try."
