What our guests have said about this accommodation

John Louw
We were very impressed with the accommodation and the cleanliness of the camp. It is very well maintained. Game viewing was limited unfortunately.
J J Fourie
Campsite was a bit crowded and we could not get to an electrical power point. Overall experience was very good. Saw and heard the Pearl Spotted Owlet.
Kent Williamson
Is clean and we were warmly welcomed by friendly staff and assistants. My only thought might be adding an extra ablution block at the camping site, as there seemed to be not enough facilities to accommodate all the people it is also a distance to the nearest ablution block when camping near the swimming pool. There are toilets by the pool but the pool is locked after 9pm and thus if one has to get up during the night it

Shop needs a revamp. Front office staff were unsure of times and availability of guided trips and unwilling to find out info. Our feeling was that more emphasis needs to be placed on the needs of the visitor / tourist.
J. Dreyer
We had a lovely time, the camp is in good condition. The check-in time is a little late.
Herman Verwey
The Camp was not completely restored after the flood. The pool, shop and restaurant was not open yet. The Staff was very friendly.
Paul Krynauw
Shingwedzi is very tired! The restaurant and areas around it are badly maintained and urgently need upgrading if we want to retain a truly international standard. Wildlife is fantastic, with great sitings, especially birds, although the vulture population is disappointingly and worryingly low. Really enjoyed the drives along rivers.
JJ De Villiers
We can see that the Management in this camp is highly skilled and effective! Keep up the good work!

Saw two young lions attacking a buffalo in a herd of aprox 500. the next day we experienced a lion feed on tit bits dropped from a leopard feeding in a tree on its kill. Saw hyena with it puppies. saw two huge male rhino fighting over a female in season . The next day we witnessed lion mating. The following day we came across a pride of lion with one very badly injured. saw 5 herd of different buffalo of round 500 in a herd

The quality of service is not acceptable: 1.The restaurant servers talk loud with each other in close proximity to the guests. 2. There is bird poop on the restaurant chairs. 3. There was a cleaning bucket with dirty water and rags next to our restaurant table in Satara. 4. The people in the reception offices are very slow and after a long day of driving you don't want to wait to get checked in. 5. The building construction quality is evident, however, the maintenance neglect is very visible. We go to Kruger every year and this is the second time we got sick from the food there.
Lara van Rooyen
Everything was fine, but the staff seems a bit tardy. The restaurand does not compare to the restaurant at Mopani, which is a slick, professional outfit.
Roger Horton
Camp was in good setting and staff very helpful. Accommodation okay but slightly overpriced. Cooking and crockery very basic and some crockery items in our bungalow were missing e.g. cups for drinking out of so we had to buy some from the shop.
Jennifer Auret
Fantastic! A wonderful holiday in a very relaxing camp. Can't wait to come back soon!
Arno Le Roux
Camp at the fencing facing the park, Genet and elephant came very close. Unfortunataly husband, wife and three kids and two friends moved in next to us and we could hear every move they made. The husband and children just could not talk softly, they were always just about screaming. Never heard the wife and friends talking. I once asked him to tone down his voice, it worked for 20 minutes.
Leandre
Fun and relaxing as always
Elaine Grunow
Bungalow was really quite small and extra mattress that we had booked were not there.(We got it eventually). Bungalow seemed to be quite old, should be renovated. Restaurant choice disappointing. Supermarket choice bad - eg. only one type of cheese and it was already mouldy.
D.S.van Staden
Camp and camp staff and facilities and office staff, good. Well done. Camp and park nice and clean.Thanks.
Petrus Steenkamp
The camping side of our trip to Shingwedzi was excellent. We were just VERY disappointed in the restaurant (Tree Restaurant). I do not think they are up to standard and that made our camping days a bit sour.
PAMELA STOLTZ

Shingwedzi:Unit no b54Upgrade makes massive difference! Well done! Unit much lighter and patio spaciousKitchen workspace excellent! Best bathroom at sanparks!A toaster (not even a negotiable) & microwave noticeably absent! Require more than 3 of all cutlery & crockery, at least 4 for 2 people. Often 2 meals eaten after unit is serviced so you spend your day washing dishes. Due to monkeys cupboards or space inside unit required to store dry food, even if this means locks on the outside cupboards. Very little cupboard space.Consider modernising curtains and bed covers. The painting of the unit incomplete.Shop well stocked.Shop staff not very friendly at all.Reception staff were friendly but not accommodating.Restaurant staff always friendly, possibly need to advise what meals are not available when the menu is brought, not once people have decided what they want to eat. It leaves you expectant, then let down.

It was a great experience, my first time with my new caravan. Will recommend to all my friends. As a South African I'm proud of our conservation efforts and hope it will continue for our next generations.

I pitched my tent right next to the fence and was able to observe scavenging hyenas, small spotted genets and the occasional African civet in the late evenings. The roar of the lions almost every night added value to my camping experience! As a city dweller I enjoyed the stars as well, being able to see the Milky Way for a change! That was only my experience in the rest camp - outside is a world of its own!
Martie Appelgryn
We were fortunate to land among elephants and seeing the Buffalos going up the river banks of the Shingwedzi. An Elephant Bull also chased us. This was amazing but scary.

We have not been to Kruger Park for some years and had received reports of the standards of accommodation having dropped. This was not our experience. The camp was clean and well run; the bungalows were basic (as one expects) but clean and comfortable. I have slept on far worse beds in establishments with a much higher grading. I have 2 comments - not really criticisms, and they did not spoil my experience: the stove did not work, and we were forced to use one of the camping kitchens; and the reception staff were adequate but slow. They would benefit from working with a very experienced staff member for some time to upskill them. But they were pleasant and (within the limits of "normal" queries) helpful. Will certainly be returning!
JOHANN STROH
We had a much nicer bungalow and the provided kitchen utensils were adequate as well as other services. The road to Kanniedood dam was exceptional with may species of animals to be seen.
Cheryl Barrie
We immensly enjoyed our stay at Shingwedzi. The camp was excellently clean, the staff friendly. The breakfast at Punda Maria was excellent. Overall we had a excellent rest and would love to return.
Mrs Du Bois
We had a wonderful time at all the camping sites. They are all in a very good condition. It is clean and neat. The roads are all in a good condition. Service at the reception and in shops were very good. Very good value for money! We did not see a lot of animals
Attie Pretorius
Animals were in good condition. My concern is the amound of windmills not working at the waterholes. The ranger has told us that those that are empty will not be fixed but broken down. The animals are already used to these water supplies. Not all animals can dig for water like the elephants! Will visit again soon!

PLEASANTLY SURPRISED WITH NEW INTERIOR OF BUNGALOW AND BRAND NEW BEDDING. STILL FEEL BASIC UTENSILS IN OUTSIDE CUPBOARD OF BUNGALOW WOULD BE A BIG ADD ON. WOULD ALSO RECCOMMED BEDSIDE TABLES BUT OVERALL SATISFIED.

The accommodation is spacious which is a definite plus however more privacy is required between units on the outside. We were a little disappointed as we saw no lion, leopard or rhino over 6 days.

Baie dankie daarvoor.

Shingwedzi was fun. Only complaint would be having camped on dusty soil. Service at the restaurant and service desk was very good.

Good:As always the Kruger is one of a kind in the world! Game veiwing was good and animals look healthy. Ablutions was not bad and the campsite was very clean.BAD:The campsite looks out on to the staff quaters. Every night we had to listen to some staff members having load parties till late! It was a let down for we come to the park for the animal sounds specially at night. The shop at Shingwedzi was poor comparing to others, no fresh foods etc.Overall:Small problems but will be back next year!

We loved the rest in this camp and enjoyed the lovely view of leopard on the bridge just before arrival. Very quiet but peaceful and clean.

Staff made a lot of noise during time we spend at Shingwedzi at night time playing loud music and shouting till late at night (01h00)it was so loud that you could not hear any night sounds. This was not the first time ,the previous time we visited Shingwedzi the staff took over the day visitors area and partied till 21h00 and then took the party to there quarters after we complain about the noise, and they partied till 3 o clock in the morning. The funny thing is if visitors arrive at any camp they give you all the rules and regulations of the park witch all visitors must adhere to,or you get a fine. Especially noise during day and night. But the staff don't have be silent they can play loud music sing and shout till late at night driving at high speed on the roads and also after the gates closed at night they drive from one camp to the other to go visit their friends. I have visited the park a hundred times before and stayed at all the camps and have no complain about them. It is only the Shingwedzi Camp staff WHO ARE SO IGNORANT TOWARDS THE RULES OF THE PARK !!!I really do hope if I visit the beautiful Shingwedzi camp again that it will be as peaceful as the place and bush can be.Regards

Always wonderful to visit the KNP. Peaceful, friendly staff, very clean amenities and plenty to see and experience.

First day we saw a lioness caught a small warthog. And last day male lion walked in road in front of our vehicle. Fantastic pics taken.

We would just like to thank you for creating such a welcoming and memorable environment. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the camp and especially enjoyed the way the birds and other small animals freely walked through the campsite.

Our whole family went to Shingwedzi camp for our annual get-together and as always we enjoyed every moment. The staff at Shingwedzi itself also put in great effort to make sure that we're all next to each other as we all booked seperate. What a nice place to take a break!

As this was the first time that we visited Shingwedzi, we were very suprised when we arrived that there were 3 generators making a lot of noise. Apparently there were problems with the electricity. After the second day it was fixed. Must say did have a problem sleeping with all the noise of the generators. Through all this, we enjoyed a wonderful 4 day stay. Lovely little off roads to see quite a variety of birds as well as animals. The Cheetah and her 3 cubs we saw at a watering hole on the way to Pafuri - this was so exciting. Accommodation was very pleasant. A suggestion to be made - a non-smoking sign needs to be put in the bungalows and chalets as the smoke tends to linger on the curtains and bedding. Would recommend this camp site to everyone. Thanks for a wonderful time.

We enjoyed Shingwedzi very much. Although there was a power cut staff came to make sure we were OK. Generator a bit noisy but overall enjoyed the experience of staying at this camp. R700.00 per night bit expensive.

We were happy with the camp and the service received at camp. We went on night drive and saw Leopard and Hyena. Bishop (the guide) was excellent on the drive with all sorts of info on the animals. We wanted to do breakfast at Babalala and there was no gas available. This was the only negative we encountered. Overall very nice and we would do it again.

Again, very little game, no masses of common herbivores. The cottage very worn out, needs an updating. The offer and quality of the restaurant poor: what you get served does simply not match with the tittle on the menu.

Daar is kampe waar dit beter versorgd is as ander. Daar is plekke wat aandag nodig het .... Shingwedzi se elektriese heining was buitewerking en hul restaurant was nie so tops nie (veral oor Paasnaweek).

We experienced problems with the road getting to The Park which caused delays we were not expecting even though we had put aside extra time for this. We were then refused access at Numbi gate and sent up to Palaborwa Gate who also refused us entry as we only go there at 16.30 and was told we would not make camp by the closing time of that gate (18.00) - even though we had already spent over 9 hours in the car. It would be helpful if this kind of information was printed on the documents recevied for confirmation. Also my 2 eldest children are 14 & 13 years old (classed as adults accroding to your pricing) but do not have ID books as yet as they are not 16 - I had to "present" them at the gate for verifcation as I did not have ID books for them? This was also not mentioned anywhere on your confimration documents. We had to find alternate accomodation for the Friday evening at our own expense. When we eventually got to camp our bungalo was infested with a swarm of bee's which we had to spend the remainder of the weekend swatting as this was an on going problem even though we didn't leave anthing out that would attract them (also because of the Monkey and Squirril problem at that camp)and wiped down the table and put the dishes away when they were used. They managed to get into the bungalo as the screen door was broken and didn't close at the top. Although none of us are alergic to bee stings I am sure that others are not as fortunate and this is quite a concern if you are alergic.

It took us 10 years to go back to the kruger and we loved it. The children can't waite to go back, but it has been a long time since we have experienced so many rude, unhelpful and unwilling people that work at a place. It is shocking to think that they work with so many tourist and get away with being like that. I hope that something can be done to improve this.

As per usual our visit to Kruger was special, as we all love the bushveld and its wild life. We do however find the service of staff slow and not entirely fluent in the English language. This I find is especially important when dealing with international visitors.Shingwedzi, although dry and dusty, and one of the older camps, was clean. I would also recommend that assistance be more readily available to assist campers in setting up, especially the older campers.Kind regardsSue botha

Experienced a double booking
Before payment, we experienced an issue of double booking, where suddenly our chosen lodging is only available for 2 out of 4 days. I hope Safari.com can improve their system to avoid this in the future. While it will be an inconvenience on our part to have to move lodging half way, we also understand the high demand of the lodging as we make the booking just 5 months before departure. I really appreciate Nelia's quick action informing us and providing an alternative plan which works for us. Overall it was quite a smooth booking process.

A superb experience
Dear Jayson, You are a star. The very professional pieces of advice and the optimal design of the schedule that turned our holidays into an extraordinary experience. Thank you so much! Leopard Hills are indeed the boutique luxury camp that you recommended. People there are incredible friendly and knowledgable. The guide was excellent. And the cook, she was a friendly star too. The flight connections went well, despite that rather long drive, and the very early morning start. Wake up calls at 4 AM should be forbidden :) Mauritius was great, Club Med The Plantation Albion was the perfect choice. (The other Club Med @ Cannonier we visited only and were glad we didn’t chose that one…) Thank you again for the superb organisation.
