Accommodation

Four-bed Chalets, have a bedroom with 2 single beds and a ¾-sleeper couch (suitable for 1 adult or 2 children) in the open plan living room / kitchen. A dining area is enclosed on the veranda and an indoor fireplace and an outside braai area is also provided.
The units come equipped with ceiling fans and 220V electricity.
The kitchen is fully equipped with crockery and cutlery, cooking utensils, glassware, a 4-plate stove, microwave, fridge / freezer combo, kettle and toaster.
Provide your own firewood.

Facilities & Activities

Flower Season: During early August and September, seemingly overnight, the dusty valleys of Namaqualand are transformed into a wonderland, carpeted with wildflowers that draw visitors from around the country and from abroad.

Caracal Eco Route. 4x4 essential. Distance 176km - 200km (depending on the track selected) Contact the Skilpsd office to obtain a permit and eco route booklet. Strictly no driving on closed tracks (busy with rehabilitation) and on any beach

Mountain Biking, bring your own bicycles

Walking trails. There are two trails that depart from Skilpad Camp and the Heaviside Hiking trail along the Namaqua coastline

Birding. You can request the Bird Checklist for Namaqua park from your consultant

At present the Park has only a limited road network available to sedan vehicles. No shop, restaurant or fuel is available in Namaqua National Park and guests must take along their own firewood.Vehicle fuel and ATM facilities are available in the nearby town Springbok (87km away)- not in the park itself. Vehicle repairs, post office and police services are available at Kamieskroon. Medical services only in Springbok, which is 67 km away.

We enjoyed a magical 2 days at Namaqua Reserve. The cottage was home from home, well equipped and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The wildflowers were out and an extra bonus was frequent sightings of the buck in the reserve, all looking sleek and well fed. We saw springbok, red Hartebeest and Gemsbok. We were sorry to leave and would have liked to stay a week. The only problem is the appalling state of the access road from Kamieskroon to the reserve which shook our car to pieces all the way in and out.

My husband & I spent one night at Skilpad Rest Camp. It was absolutely fabulous.The word 'rest camp' gives one the impression that its a very basic camp - NOT THE CASE.The chalet was lovely, beautifully clean and crisp. And what a lovely view over the mountains.I'm sure it would be beautiful when the flowers are blooming. Would come back there any time.

The accommodation at Skilpad camp is amazing, the attention to detail is super. We each even got a chocolate on our pillow. The staff are friendly and efficient. The Namaqua Park is all about the fauna and flora, we did see a black Springbok. I will definitely go back again.

The accommodation was really fantastic,and we would have stayed longer if we had the time. I was not impressed with the staff at reception as they did not appear to know about the booking. Similarly there was no pamphlets available for the public. Other than that you guys have improved your facilities tremendously. Well done.

Unfortunately, I enjoyed our stay so much with the splendid view from the huts over the fields up to the ocean that I have to keep it a secret. Sorry to do this. Jodi, at the reception as well as all the other staff and the "Padstal" were exceptional. The local food was excellent. I am pleased as an South African that we could contribute in this way to local income generation and work creation! The research into role of the Anatolian dogs in nature conservation is an exceptional example of lateral thinking. Thank you for sharing this secret. We intend to keep it out of selfishness and will never share it, for fear of never getting another chance to visit.

What a treat to stay in such a well organised park. Simple and well-thought out. Even in a heavy east wind we enjoyed being 'outside' as we used the glassed veranda. The views are simply incredible and we saw a great variety of mammals, birds and flowers.

By far the best chalets in the Sanparks group. The peace and quiet changes the entire experience. Driving the Eco route was an experience in itself. The game does not seem to bothered by visitors concidering the amount of visitors per annum. We will be back once a year

Fantastic travel agent for African safari family trip!

Wow! Shann was and is fantastic! She figured out a way to make our entire trip work. We are going on a 2 week trip to South Africa and Botswana. She really helped tie it all together as a wonderful, cohesive trip. She is super nice and super smart and very knowledgeable.
