Overview

Tshugulu Lodge - one of Mapungubwe National Park's most exciting safari destinations, and situated along the popular (and extremely busy) eco trail, this beautiful lodge is intimate and extremely comfortable. Whether relaxing by the swimming pool, or taking in the sights, guests are sure to enjoy an authentic safari adventure. Because of the high traffic of wild animals (notably the Big Five) in the area, most lodge activities are guided. 

Accommodation

Accommodation at Tshugulu Lodge is provided for up to fourteen guests in six bedrooms, and offers guest bath facilities, and an en-suite swimming pool, as well as an exclusive eco-trail.

Guests must book the camp out entirely, per group. This creates the immediately intimate atmosphere which pervades any stay here. 

Activities & Facilities

Guests in the Tshugulu area can enjoy a invigorating morning and sunset game drives, trips up and through the nearby mountain pass, bird watching trips and fantastic game viewing, views of the nearby Cape vulture colony, bush walks, and the two-night 4x4 eco-trail.

Facilities at Mapungubwe include a picnic site and communal ablution facilities, attractive and serene picnic areas, and a small tuck shop.

The park is home to no restaurant or shops, filling station or public telephones. 

Wildlife

Animals at Mapungubwe include Eland and Blue Wilderbeest, Waterbuck, Kudu, Impala, Bushbuck, Klipspringer, Zebra, Red Hartebeest, Steenbok and Duiker, Warthog, Elephant, Gemsbok, Bush Pig, Giraffe, Baboon, Leopard, White Rhino, Cheetah, Lion, Aardvark, Hyena, and Wild Dog.

Bird watching takes in Southern Pied Babbler, Thickbilled Cuckoos, Verreaux’s (Black) Eagle, White-crested Helmetshrike, Cinnamon-breasted (Rock) Bunting, White-crested Helmetshrike, Blue Waxbill and Black-backed Puffback, as well as many others.

Directions

To Mapungubwe:

• Take N1 North to Polokwane; in Polokwane CBD take R521 to Dendron, about 40km to Vivo to join Alldays, another 23km to the Mapungubwe Entrance and Reception.

• Take N1 to Polokwane CBD, 107km to Makhado to Musina with the N1. From Musina join R572 about 68km to the Mapungubwe Entrance and Reception.

• Air: Closest airport is Polokwane, 200 km from the park.

•Guests should be sure to fill up their fuel tanks at Alldays / Musina, as petrol is not available inside the park.
