Overview

Vhembe Wilderness Camp calls the Limpopo Province's Mapungubwe National Park home. Infused with the airy quality of the nearby valley dip, stretched out before it, Vhembe is a refreshing and truly beautiful camp - a stone's throw from the Limpopo River and alive with the sounds of rustling tree tops and animal yelps, life and adventure at Vhembe Wilderness Camp is frozen in the amber glow of an evening sunset. 

Accommodation

Accommodation at Vhembe Wilderness Trails Camp takes the form of en-suite, wooden cabins, with a communal and fully equipped kitchen, solar powered lighting, stunning views from quaint, private decks, an outdoor boma area, and electric ceiling fans.

Activities & Facilities

Vhembe offers an enchanting heritage tour and exciting three hour Tree Top Walk, morning, sunset and night drives, and guided archaeological tours of the area as activities. Facilities include a delightful picnic site and communal ablution facilities, as well as the opportunity to enjoy a skottel braai (gas barbecue) and buy supplies at the tuck shop. 

Important Information

The park has no restaurant or shops, filling station or public telephones. 

Wildlife

Animals at Mapungubwe include Eland and Blue Wilderbeest, Waterbuck, Kudu, Impala, Bushbuck, Klipspringer, Zebra, Red Hartebeest, Steenbok and Duiker, Warthog, Elephant, Gemsbok, Bush Pig, Giraffe, Baboon, Leopard, White Rhino, Cheetah, Lion, Aardvark, Hyena, and Wild Dog.

Bird watching takes in Southern Pied Babbler, Thickbilled Cuckoos, Verreaux’s (Black) Eagle, White-crested Helmetshrike, Cinnamon-breasted (Rock) Bunting, White-crested Helmetshrike, Blue Waxbill and Black-backed Puffback, as well as many others.

To Mapungubwe National Park
:

• Take N1 North to Polokwane; in Polokwane CBD take R521 to Dendron, about 40km to Vivo to join Alldays, another 23km to the Mapungubwe Entrance and Reception.

• Take N1 to Polokwane CBD, 107km to Makhado to Musina with the N1. From Musina join R572 about 68km to the Mapungubwe Entrance and Reception.

• Air: Closest airport is Polokwane, 200 km from the park.

• Coaches: Daily coach service to Musina from Gauteng.
Guests should be sure to fill up their fuel tanks at Alldays / Musina, as petrol is not available inside the park.
