Reviews

"Stayed here for 3 nights and we both agreed it is the best place we have ever stayed everything was superb. The food was exceptional and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. We saw the big 5 in one drive and we were very impressed with the knowledge of the guides and Sean (our guide) was friendly, hospitable and tailored the drives to suit the guests in our vehicle. Wish we were still there and will be back one day!"

"We have traveled all over the world, stayed in fabulous hotels... but THIS is the nicest place we have ever stayed! The accommodations are absolutely glorious and the setting is resplendent with animal viewings... watching elephants play in the river during lunch, watching porcupines stroll by before dinner. In between the game drives, we enjoyed the peace and serenity. And the game drives... oh my! Zane and Absalom were on fire... we saw The Big Five on several occasions and were in awe of their tracking skills and knowledge of the animals! They created memories which our family will forever treasure!!! Zane and Absalom... thank you especially for those memories with the hippos and the lions!!! And many thanks to all the staff, who were friendly and accommodating! Our future trips to South Africa will always include Lukimbi!!!"

"This lodge is absolutely superb, it is built around a waterhole which attracts a fair amount of game and the rooms look out over the waterhole and the bush, all are large and very private. The service and cuisine are absolutely excellent, we stayed for three nights and had some of the best meals on our holiday. There is also an excellent wine cellar (you are welcome to have a look around it, if interested), given the location the wine is very fairly priced. Whilst the lodge would be very comfortable for a do nothing stay, it is the game that most people come for. Our Ranger and Tracker (Craig and Thomas) were truly excellent, both at locating and informing us about the animals. One morning we went out to watch Lions around their kill (a Buffalo) which was followed by a close up encounter with a young male Leopard as we returned to the lodge we spotted a Cheetah near the road and then we had to wait while a large White Rhino walked (slowly) along the road in front of us, truly breathtaking. Where the lodge really scores is in enabling their Land Rovers to go off the tracks on the 150sqkm which comprises their reserve, this means that you can see game which is inaccessible from the road. In the main reserve you have to stick to the roads."

"We recently spent 3 nights at Lukimbi Lodge and loved every minute of it. The rooms are extremely spacious and the outside shower was exactly what was needed after a long but exciting game drive. The rooms are immaculate and always beautifully turned down for you every night. The main reception area of the lodge is large enough to accommodate all the guests and provides an amazing lookout point down onto the river below. We were lucky enough to have some elephants come down and drink at the river while we lounged around in the pool no more than 50 meter away. The staff at the lodge were fantastic and always willing to help. The food was absolutely amazing and you could be forgiven for thinking that you were sitting in a five star restaurant! Everyone was extremely friendly and really do make a guest feel at home in the lodge. For our drives we had Travis who was new to the reserve (although you would never say) and Absalom as our tracker. Not only did they find us the big 5 (Leopard on 3 separate occasions) but were always happy to answer all our questions. They both went out of their way to ensure we had the best game viewing experiences and were fantastic company throughout our stay. They were a highlight of our stay and I would highly recommend them! Thank you to everyone at Lukimbi for a wonderful stay."

"The Lodge facilities are excellent, very roomy, clean with fabulous views. The staff are outstanding in terms of their friendliness, support and overall willingness to make sure you have the best time. The food was excellent. The game drives were totally absorbing and thanks to the brilliant rangers and trackers, you don't just see animals, you experience them. We saw the big 5 on 3 of our days and as it is a concession, there are no vehicles other than those of the lodge. The whole experience leaves you with a lasting memory. Don't just go overnight - you need a few days to immerse yourselves and have the opportunity to see the animals that don't always appear on cue. We would highly recommend this holiday."

"Spent only 2 nights, but saw many different species of mammals, birds, and plants. Our ranger, Zane, and tracker, Absalom, were fantastic. They showed us as a large variety of animals, were very informative, and made safety and comfort the #1 priority. Saw many of the 4 of the big 5 (didn't see leopards), and scouted out a site where a leopard had consumed most of an impala a day before--visiting the site up close, after the event, was possibly more interesting than viewing the feeding from a distance might have been. The lodge is first class, meals were outstanding, swimming in the pool and have a herd of elephants appear across the stream was amazing. Lukimbi is <2 hrs from Nelspruit airport on/near the southern border of Kruger Park, so it's relatively accessible. I flew in one afternoon, in time for an evening safari, had 2 safaris the middle day, and a morning safari the 3rd day before heading out again. Bring something warm to wear (sweater/ jumper) for the morning safaris. If you have a choice between investing in good binoculars or a new telephoto SLR, I'd recommend the binoculars. You won't be posing with the big game anyway, but you'll be examining animals frequently through your binoculars. I traveled by myself (extension of a business trip), but the bungalows are huge and I wished I had had my family along to enjoy the safaris, the accommodations, and the amenities. It's hard to assess value as I don't know have anything to compare this against, but I don't regret the costs--this trip maximized the experience of seeing wildlife (literally ending up in herds of elephants, buffalos, impalas, etc., multiple times), and the service and attention to comfort and experience was as good as it could be."

"This lodge is a little treat to yourself, I felt I was on a honeymoon :) The great thing of this place is the private area they have in Kruger, they leased a good amount of land in Kruger where only this lodge has access to, therefore the safari's are private and no other visitors may enter this area. We saw the big 5 already in this area! The lodge has private (and armed) rangers with excellent knowledge of the wildlife and the environment, you have 2 safaris per day (at 6am and 3.30pm) but times can be agreed beforehand (everybody is very flexible and will tailor anything to your personal needs). Safari is well-organized with drinks and snacks in Kruger ! I would also recommend the walking safari at 11am, takes 1 hour with an armed ranger and is entire different way of enjoying Kruger. We saw a Rhino from 5meters distance (no joke)! The lodge itself is excellent - Room design is great, you have a view towards the river with wildlife nearby (saw elephants, Hippo, monkeys, buffalo and a Leopard at the lodge itself!). You can even take a bath or an outdoor shower while watching the river. Buffet and dinner is great, everything is very fresh and the cook is an expert. Dinner is a la carte with a good selection to choose from (also vegetarian if you'd like). We were lucky that we arrived on the Monday evening, when the 'special' event takes place: dining under the stars (outdoor dining). Will not spoil what happens that evening (it is a surprise), but if you could arrange your travel plans accordingly I would definitely recommend this ! I also like the personal attention from the rangers, they will be there for your entire stay, will take you on the safari, will guide you to your lodges (yes this is needed, the leopard is close by and we saw them in the lodge), and he/she will also be your host for the evening. We had an excellent time, very well done to all the staff and Management involved !"

"The most perfect setting you could imagine for tons of sightings of the "Big 5". This lodge was a fantastic experience from being greeted on our arrival with a cool cloth to refresh ourselves... things only got better from then on. The accommodation was stunning, looking out onto the plain and a close river. Couldn't fault anything of this place it was fantastic. The guides and trackers welcome you with a wealth of knowledge which they disperse with effect and pleasure, you can definitely see that they enjoy their job, ( who wouldn't?). Thanks to Kim and our tracker Stranger, yep that's his name! The food was exceptional and varied one day we had, antelope, warthog, venison, lamb and chicken on the menu. Thanks to Shelly and Sean the managers who do a great job. We will be back!"

"The staff a Lukimbi are like a big lovely family, and as soon as we arrived they made us part of their family. The scenery, accommodation, food, service is the best you could ask for. Each day at lunch time the local herd of elephants would come to the watering hole for a cool down and we could sit at the lodge and be just feet away from them. Our guide Kim and tracker Stranger were brilliant at there jobs and looking after us. We saw the big 5 and so much more. It is also very family friendly. Thanks to all the staff at Lukimbi you have something very special, please don't change anything."

- Paula

"What an amazing place - we couldn't fault it. Absolute luxury. Private concession with only 4 vehicles that can even go off-road. Very knowledgeable guides. Superb food. Rooms overlook river with elephants and hippos arriving each day. Staff were fantastic."
