"River Lodge is situated along the Sabi Sand allowing for wonderful game viewing without even having to leave your private deck! But you will want to get out on every safari because the rangers are great (thanks to Mac & Craig) and the wildlife viewing amazing. The lodge is beautiful and the staff incredibly accommodating to this group of 10 with different eating requirements (2 vegans and a vegetarian). Keri, Leisha & Molly provided amazing hospitality and helped to coordinate everything from a doctors visit to a vegan birthday cake! A really great experience in every way."
"It was a corporate getaway so everything was prearranged for us, but from the moment we arrived at Exeter we felt welcomed and pampered. The rooms are stunning, the staff fabulous (somehow they remember everybody's first name - all 16 of us), the game view was fantastic having seen the Big 5 on the first day... I would return here any day... Thank you to the team at River Lodge."
"The Lodge was recently redone and it is fabulous! Staff is over the top, food is 5 star dining every meal. Game viewing is incredible! Tell the ranger what you want to see and by gosh, he finds it for you. Great profusion of big 5 plus. Cannot say enough about the and Beyond organization. There is no better!"
"A beautiful well maintained lodge with staff who truly spoil you. The food is delicious and we were surprised with breakfast in the bush and also morning coffee and cocktails everyday to punctuate the game drives. Our tracker and ranger, Daniel and Chris, were knowledgeable and we were fortunate enough to see the big 5! We saw a large pride of 13 lions, plus 4 young males who strode around our jeep. We also saw leopards including a male eating his kill in the tree and then coming down to the ground within feet of us. Spectacles that even the Rangers took photos of as they were such special moments. We were rightly warned to travel lightly due to the small luggage capacity of the planes. In retrospect one doesn't need fresh clothes for the evenings as you literally fall off the jeep after an evening game drive and dinner is almost ready to be served. So save space and don't bring evening clothes!"
"An amazing stay and game drives at the River Lodge. The staff, butler, guide (Mac) and tracker were great, with excellent service. We stayed two nights and were most impressed with the tremendous opportunity and variety during the game drives, and with the views during lunch and from the rooms. The riverbed is teeming with animals and the views are unbelievable. We saw so many wonderful animals and photo opportunities, especially those with babies. A once in a lifetime experience. The last night we were surprised with dinner in our room. A must see."
"I spent 4 nights at the Lodge and I am having difficulty in finding anything to criticize. The accommodation, the food, the organised safari trips and the hospitality of the staff are all first class. All these types of resorts are expensive but I think this one offers good value for money. Our Ranger was so knowledgeable and articulate and our Tracker was the best at finding game. Vehicles from neighbouring resorts were often guided by our Ranger who seemed to be the best and finding interesting sightings. September is one of the best months to visit. I am told that April/May is also a good time."
"Greeted on arrival with hot flannel, offered refreshments, signed in, shown to our bungalow, there are 8, 4 either side if main building fabulous views over the river, staff so lovely. You have your own named butler who we had was Positive, lovely lovely chap. Food plentiful, game drive out if this world, we had Craig, who has a wonderful sense of humour, knowledge was outstanding, as I was a scary cat he filled me with confidence. 2 game drives a day, early morning and late afternoon. There are wild animals around so need to be watchful. Rooms are outstanding, bath, two showers one inside one outside, a rip pool and decking area. I would go back in a flash."
"Awesome place to stay while on safari. They cooked for us, did a special show of local tribe dances etc... Saw the big five which gave us a two out of two times I have been there! Put this on your bucket list. South Africa is nothing like I expected. It far exceeded my expectations."
"This New Yorker has very high standards and the River Lodge did not disappoint! Stayed there 3 nights for anniversary trip with my wife and from start to finish, the service and resort were phenomenal! Terrific staff, wonderful BBQ in the sand pit, great villa and lots of surprises! I highly recommend River Lodge for a special occasion. It's worth it!"
"We just returned from a trip to South Africa, 4 days Cape Town, 4 days Kirkman's, and 4 days Exeter River Lodge. By far, Exeter River Lodge was the best. The accomodations are exquisite and even provided some incredible game viewing from our patio. One day an elephant walked right past our plunge pool. Another day a group of baboons tried to get into our room (thank goodness the door was locked). Plus, we saw a herd of buffalo, a crocodile, and many impala, all from the comfort of our patio. The lodge staff are friendly and helpful. My husband caught a 24 hour flu bug while there and they were helpful with rehydration and anti-diarrhea medication. They even offered to call the on-call doctor, who is apparently a two hour drive away. Also, in keeping with most andBeyond lodges, our butler arranged a private dinner one night, a bubble bath with rose petals, and endless other pamperings. Our driver was amazing with his endless knowledge of the animals. My only complaint was that there are typically 8 people in the Land Rover which means that someone always gets a middle seat. Even so, given that it's an open air vehicle and our group all took turns sitting in the middle seat, it all worked out fine. If you are considering a stay at Exeter River - don't hesitate. You won't be disappointed and will probably turn out to be the highlight of your trip."
