Somalisa Camp is set in a private concession in the heart of Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe on an ancient seasonal flood plain. In the middle of the bushveld and far from the crowds – where the golden plains stretch its expansive arms into the horizon – there is an abundance of bird species and wildlife right on the doorstep of the safari tents radiating timeless elegance.
Dedicated to conservation and sustainability, with a full solar power farm and a water purity system enabling recycling, the award-winning Somalisa Camp is a pioneer in the sphere of eco-friendly safari accommodation and offers guests an intimate and unique bush camp experience. The seven sailcloth tents of Somalisa Camp are elegantly furnished with touches of contemporary African decor and earth-inspired furniture. Equipped with modern amenities such as charging stations, complimentary toiletries and dressing gowns, each of the double bed and twin bed tents also consists of en suite bathrooms with flush toilets, a copper slipper-style bathtub and a sheltered al fresco bush shower. For those cooler evenings a wood-burner fireplace sets the atmosphere while a private viewing deck boasts endless views over the savanna.
Experience the African bush from the main relaxation area of Somalisa Camp under the shade of an Acacia grove; there is a separate dining and lounge area, and a swimming pool overlooking the plains and a natural waterhole – better known as the elephant pool – which are frequently visited by herds of elephants. During the day the deck is the ideal spot to relax with a cocktail in hand watching a variety of wildlife quench their thirst, while the remoteness of the camp lends the opportunity to spend the night dining under the stars indulging in decadent fine cuisine, award-winning wines and more.
Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s largest and most diverse park teeming with wildlife, including the big five, and it is especially known for its incredible biodiversity and large numbers of – more than 50 000 – elephants. With experienced and knowledgeable guides who are passionate about the area, Somalisa offers daily game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles to bring you closer to unforgettable animal sightings which includes the possibility of spotting cheetah, wild dog and the rare aardvark. Hides are also available for a different wildlife viewing experience, there are night drives on offer to see Hwange’s nocturnal animals and guided walking safaris bring you closer to the bushveld and nature’s small critters and big giants. Cultural visits can also be arranged to give guests a glimpse into the lives of those in the communities nearby, and to see first-hand the collaborative effort between locals and Somalisa Camp to empower, encourage self-sustainability and decrease human-wildlife contact.
