Chobe National Park nestles in northern Botswana and is renowned for Africa's largest herds of elephants and Cape buffalo. Botswana's oldest reserve offers a true wilderness experience with unfenced private concessions and camps open to free-roaming wildlife.
Chobe National Park can be visited throughout the year, with wildlife migrating through the park as the seasons change. The Chobe riverfront area is best visited during the dry months, from May to October. August to October are the optimum months for wildlife viewing, although it can be extremely hot during this period. During the wet months, many species, particularly plains zebras, migrate towards the Savuti Marsh. Linyanti is best visited from April onwards.
Three significant areas make up Chobe National Park: Kasane, Savuti, and Linyanti.
Kasane is the perfect starting place for your safari adventure, a bustling town that shares an unfenced border with Chobe National Park and is the main gateway to the Chobe and the rest of Botswana. It also offers easy access to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The Savuti, also known as Savute, is renowned for its predator sightings and big game, offering sanctuary to the greatest concentration of animals in southern Africa. The Linyanti is situated north of Savuti in a corner of the Chobe National Park and is most famous for its large herds of elephants, lions, sable, roan, hippos, and wild dogs.
The Chobe National Park offers a well-rounded safari experience with open-vehicle game drives, walking safaris, mobile safaris, birding safaris, and boating safaris. Accommodation in Chobe varies from private safari lodges and authentic tented camps to luxurious houseboats on the Chobe River.
