The Details
Location
Woodbury Manor sits within Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape, tucked into thick bushveld above the Bushman's River valley. The reserve is malaria-free and reachable by a short drive from Port Elizabeth, making it a practical option for families or groups combining a safari with the Garden Route.
The Manor is the newest addition to the Woodbury Collection, started by the Gush family in 1999, and is set slightly apart from the reserve's other camps for privacy.
Rooms
Four bedrooms sleep up to eight guests. Two are in the main building and two in standalone units linked to the main house by stone pathways. Each has an en-suite bathroom and its own private deck with seating.
The central building holds a large lounge, dining room, fireplace, kitchen and an upstairs loft. The ground floor opens onto an expansive deck with a swimming pool and outdoor dining area, and a boma with a fire pit and braai sits nearby.
Dining
A private chef prepares all meals for the group, working around guest preferences rather than a fixed menu. Meals can be served in the dining room, out on the deck, or around the fire in the boma.
Activities
Twice-daily game drives on Amakhala are led by the Manor's own dedicated guide, so pace, timing and focus are set by the group. The reserve carries the Big Five along with cheetah, giraffe, zebra and plentiful plains game. River experiences on the Bushman's River and guided walking trails are also available on the wider reserve.
