The Details

Location

Atzaro Okavango Camp sits on the private NG/32 concession in the Okavango Delta, between the legendary Moremi Game Reserve and the wild Gomoti Plains. The setting weaves together towering reeds, winding waterways and open savanna grasslands, and guests arrive by helicopter, the only way in or out of camp.

Design

The camp is a collaboration between African Bush Camps and the Spanish hotelier Atzaro Group, blending contemporary African style with buttery leather furnishings, woven decor, canvas and timber. Open-plan public spaces draw on the Delta's palette of greens, blues and golds, with an art gallery, boutique, wine cellar, tea room, observation deck and an ancestral boma at the heart of camp.

Rooms

Accommodation comprises eight luxury suites, one luxury family suite and one luxury villa, each tented under canvas and designed for privacy. Every suite opens onto a private plunge pool and an al fresco bath, with spacious living rooms and outdoor showers. The family suite and villa each have their own plunge pool and are configured for travelling families and small groups.

Dining

Meals are served across the camp's sprawling common spaces and at the boma, where breakfast is enjoyed at dawn before the first safari of the day. The kitchen leans on fresh, chef-prepared cuisine designed to nourish after long days in the bush, with wellness-focused options drawn from the camp's broader wellness programme.

Activities

Days are split between water and land. Game drives and night drives explore the concession in open vehicles, while walking safaris and mokoro excursions through the Delta's waterways offer a slower, more immersive pace. Birdwatching is excellent year-round, and the wellness programme adds yoga on the dedicated shala, holistic spa treatments, outdoor meditation and a fully equipped gym. Children can join the Ngwana Club for guided activities introducing them to the Delta.

Long stay

Atzaró Okavango Camp features in a series of nine-night multi-camp itineraries, each combining three nights here with three nights at two further properties, and booked as a package these save between roughly 22 and 31 per cent against the equivalent night-by-night rates. The Luxury Okavango itinerary pairs the camp with Linyanti Bush Camp and Khwai Lediba, and the Icon Safari itinerary with Thorntree River Lodge and Lolebezi, the latter available 8 April to 31 May and 1 November to 30 November, and 1 June to 31 October. Packages include accommodation, all meals and beverages, the conservation and community levy, scheduled inter-camp air transfers, twice-daily shared safari activities and laundry, but exclude international flights, visas, gratuities and single supplements, which apply in mid and high seasons only.

Family

Children aged 0 to 6 sharing with adults stay free of charge, and children from 7 to 15 years are charged 50 per cent of the adult rate when sharing a suite with an adult or another child; a child in a suite alone pays the full rate, and those aged 16 and over pay the adult rate. Transfers and the community and conservation levy remain payable for children of all ages, and children under 16 must share accommodation with an adult at all times. Canoeing, mokoro excursions and walking safaris are limited to guests aged 16 and over, and families travelling with children under 12 are charged for exclusive use of a private game-viewing vehicle, subject to availability.

"Jolene was simply extraordinary. She put together what became an absolutely incredible African trip for us in the space of barely three weeks, and from the outset her responsiveness, knowledge and genuine enthusiasm were exceptional. Nothing was ever too much trouble, responses were almost immediate, and she very quickly understood exactly what we were looking for, our expectations and the way we like to travel. More than simply being an expert at what she does, Jolene genuinely cared about making the trip special for us, and that came through in every aspect of her planning. What particularly impressed us was the flexibility with which she brought everything together. We already had some of our own arrangements in place, including international flights and staying with friends in Cape Town, but Jolene seamlessly incorporated those into the overall itinerary and still organised all the surrounding logistics and transfers. The safari component she designed was outstanding, taking us through Kruger, Victoria Falls, Chobe and the Okavango Delta, before finishing in Cape Town and the Stellenbosch wine region. Every part flowed beautifully and the lodges, experiences and logistics were exceptional. Just as importantly, Jolene stayed in contact throughout the trip at all the key moments, which made travelling so much easier. She would check us in for our internal flights and send through the boarding passes, confirm transfers the day before each pick-up, and make sure everything was in place before we ever had to think about it. That attention to detail, and the fact that she was always one step ahead, removed so much of the usual travel stress and allowed us simply to enjoy the trip. It was genuinely the trip of a lifetime, put together in an extraordinarily short timeframe, and Jolene deserves enormous credit for making it all happen. We could not recommend her highly enough."
