The Details

Location

Gondwana Private Game Reserve sits on the Garden Route between Mossel Bay and Albertinia, about a four-hour drive east of Cape Town or a short hop from George airport. It is one of the few Big Five reserves in the Western Cape, and the only one set in Cape fynbos rather than bushveld.

Black Rhino is positioned high on the reserve, looking out over a wide valley of fynbos with the Outeniqua and Langeberg mountains folding away to the north. The setting is quiet and self-contained, with wildlife moving through the valley below the villa.

Rooms

The villa takes up to six guests across en-suite bedrooms, with shared living and dining spaces, a private pool and outdoor terraces built for the view. The interiors are pitched as a second home rather than a suite: full kitchen, comfortable lounges, Wi-Fi and DSTV, and a premium speciality coffee machine.

Dining

A private chef cooks for the villa throughout your stay, so meal times, menus and dietary preferences are set by the guests rather than a lodge schedule. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included, along with house spirits, liqueurs, soft drinks and a standard wine list. French champagne and premium wines are the only drinks charged extra.

Activities

Two daily game drives run on the reserve with your own guide and vehicle, tracking Cape mountain zebra, black and white rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo and the wider antelope population across fynbos terrain. A guided fynbos walk gives a closer look at the plant kingdom the reserve is built to protect.

Children have their own Junior Ranger programme with a custom activity book, and the reserve offers slower Bokkie drives for younger guests. Spa treatments are available on the reserve at extra cost.

"Leigh-Ann was outstanding and very helpful in putting an itinerary together not just for a Safari but including internal flights and accommodation in Cape Town and all along the Garden Route. Would highly recommend using Safari.com for your South Africa trips especially if it is your first trip."
