The Details
Location
Camps Bay Retreat sits above the village of Camps Bay on the Atlantic Seaboard, backed by the Twelve Apostles and screened from the road by its own patch of forest. The white sand of Camps Bay Beach is a short walk downhill, and the V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain cableway and city centre are all within a fifteen-minute drive.
The estate is built around Earl's Dyke Manor, a heritage house dating from the early 1900s, and has grown to include the Deck House, a cluster of villas, standalone nature rooms and studios, and a set of forest pods. A hand-drawn map guides guests between hidden decks, secret gardens, streams and waterfalls, with a suspension bridge linking the manor to the villas across the ravine.
Rooms
Accommodation ranges from Manor House rooms in the original 1900s building through to villa rooms with fireplaces and private hot tubs, nature rooms and studios set into the gardens, family suites, and playful adventure pods tucked among the trees. Each has its own character, and every room keeps the forest, mountain or ocean in view.
Dining
Bella's Restaurant is the heart of the estate. The kitchen runs a seasonal menu built around local produce, and afternoons ease into cocktails on the terrace followed by dinner. A Taste of Spice menu runs on selected evenings for something more adventurous, and the signature afternoon tea and scones is a fixture of the daily rhythm. Dining is kept intimate, largely for resident guests only.
Activities
Days on the estate move at their own pace. Guests can walk the clivia trail, swim in the nature pool, cross the suspension bridge to the villas, or wander the nursery and gardens. Mint Spa offers a full treatment menu, the Forest Spa Pods pair wood-fired hot tubs with sauna and steam rooms, and the private padel court looks out over mountain and sea. Camps Bay Beach, the Promenade and the restaurants and bars of the village are a short stroll downhill.

"Very helpful with itinerary and excellent arrangements of transport from and to Cape Town, and Idubi in Sabi Sands and Lukimbi in Kruger. Although a rep for Safari.com said a letter from a doctor was not required, such a letter IS REQUIRED to go on bush walks if older than 65. Fortunately, we checked the reserve web site and had a doctor's letter."
