Child policy
The hotel sets a minimum check-in age of 18, so the lead guest on every booking has to be 18 or over. Marriott publishes no separate age limit for children sharing with parents, and no cot or extra-bed charges, so confirm the ages of everyone travelling with your consultant before booking. Room categories vary in size and not all of them take a third bed, which matters more here than at a bush lodge.
Other things worth flagging: check-in is from 15:00 and check-out is at 12:00, the whole property is smoke free, and pets are not allowed. Service animals are welcome with no fee or paperwork. There is no airport shuttle, so transfers need booking separately.
The details
The Cape Town EDITION sits at 7 East Pier Road, right on the working edge of the V&A Waterfront. Arrival is through a sculptural form the hotel calls the Drum, and the material language carries on from there in hand-laid brickwork, artisanal masonry, and tactile finishes that give the social spaces a local accent rather than a generic luxury one.
The building holds 142 rooms and 27 suites, a spa, a rooftop pool, a 24-hour gym, three restaurants, two bars, and event space. Staff speak English and Afrikaans. Practical touches include mobile key entry, 24-hour room service, daily housekeeping with turndown, same-day dry cleaning, and a concierge team that arranges local experiences around the city.
For safari guests, the position does most of the work. Robben Island ferries, the Two Oceans Aquarium, and the Waterfront restaurants are a short walk away, and the Table Mountain cableway is about 15 minutes by car.
Rooms
Rooms run from Guest Rooms through Superior Queen and Superior King to Deluxe King, then into Junior Suites. The distinction that matters is outlook: some rooms face the ocean and marina, others face Table Mountain, and several categories come with a balcony. Deluxe Kings and Junior Suites add more space and a separate seating area, and the suites suit longer city stays either side of a safari.
Every room includes Wi-Fi, 24-hour room service, wake-up calls, and turndown. Accessible rooms are available with roll-in showers, lowered fittings, and hand-held shower wands.
Dining
SHALE is the signature restaurant, built around coastal and Cape Winelands cooking with seasonal, responsibly sourced ingredients. The Lobby Bar handles light bites, aperitifs, speciality tea and coffee, and the general business of meeting people.
Up on the Pool Terrace, light lunches run from 10:00 to 16:00, cocktails take over from 16:00, and dinner is served until 23:00. The Punch Room is the quieter option, an intimate bar with limited seating. EAVE Bar & Lounge is the loud one, with a terrace, small sharing plates, and curated entertainment that pushes sunset into late evening.
Activities
The spa opens daily from 10:00 to 22:00 by appointment, offering massages, couples treatments, and facials built around recovery rather than indulgence alone. The fitness centre runs 24 hours with cardio and strength equipment, guided classes, and personal training on request.
The outdoor rooftop pool is open 08:00 to 19:00, with a lifeguard on duty and towels provided. Beyond the hotel, the concierge arranges bespoke city experiences: Winelands day trips, Table Mountain, Cape Point, Robben Island, and Bo-Kaap walking tours.

A closer look.
"Jolene was simply extraordinary. She put together what became an absolutely incredible African trip for us in the space of barely three weeks, and from the outset her responsiveness, knowledge and genuine enthusiasm were exceptional. Nothing was ever too much trouble, responses were almost immediate, and she very quickly understood exactly what we were looking for, our expectations and the way we like to travel. More than simply being an expert at what she does, Jolene genuinely cared about making the trip special for us, and that came through in every aspect of her planning. What particularly impressed us was the flexibility with which she brought everything together. We already had some of our own arrangements in place, including international flights and staying with friends in Cape Town, but Jolene seamlessly incorporated those into the overall itinerary and still organised all the surrounding logistics and transfers. The safari component she designed was outstanding, taking us through Kruger, Victoria Falls, Chobe and the Okavango Delta, before finishing in Cape Town and the Stellenbosch wine region. Every part flowed beautifully and the lodges, experiences and logistics were exceptional. Just as importantly, Jolene stayed in contact throughout the trip at all the key moments, which made travelling so much easier. She would check us in for our internal flights and send through the boarding passes, confirm transfers the day before each pick-up, and make sure everything was in place before we ever had to think about it. That attention to detail, and the fact that she was always one step ahead, removed so much of the usual travel stress and allowed us simply to enjoy the trip. It was genuinely the trip of a lifetime, put together in an extraordinarily short timeframe, and Jolene deserves enormous credit for making it all happen. We could not recommend her highly enough."
