The Details
The Setting
Chobe Savanna Lodge sits on the northern bank of the Chobe River in Namibia's Eastern Zambezi Region, with the river itself forming the border with Botswana. The main lodge looks out across wetlands and grasslands to Chobe National Park's Puku Flats and the riverine forest beyond, wrapped in a 270-degree arc of water and sky.
The Chobe River shapes everything here. It draws elephant herds down to drink, guides predators along its banks, and sustains huge numbers of migratory birds. From the raised decks of the main lodge, in-lodge game viewing is genuinely rewarding, with elephants, antelope and prolific birdlife regularly moving into view without guests needing to leave the property.
Accommodation
The lodge has 13 safari chalets set on raised wooden platforms, with chalets 1 to 6 facing west and 7 to 13 facing east so that each captures a slightly different aspect of the river. Chalets 11 and 12 can be booked independently or as an interleading pair with two separate entrances, useful for families or friends travelling together.
All chalets are en suite with an indoor shower, single vanity and tall windows, and can be configured as twin or double. Each has a private viewing deck, ceiling fan and air-conditioning, mosquito net, pass-code safe, kettle with tea and coffee, and 220V charging points. The new glass-fronted design pulls the river setting straight into the room.
Dining
Dining is all-inclusive and communal by default, served across covered and open-air settings in the main area, with an extended breakfast deck and quiet corners for those who want them. Private dining is included and available on request. The main area also holds a fully stocked bar, buffet and coffee station, with a boma campfire and swimming pool on the ground level.
Activities
Scheduled activities depart twice daily and are water-led. Motorboat safaris in hard-bottom aluminium vessels bring guests to eye level with elephants, hippos, crocodiles and aquatic antelope along the Chobe. Slower skimmer boat cruises are used for brunch and sunset outings, with food and drinks served on the river.
Guided catch-and-release fishing runs outside the January to February closed season, with tigerfish, catfish and bream the main species. Birding is a genuine draw in its own right, on foot, by boat or from the lodge decks. Seasonal guided walks across the floodplains and cultural excursions into nearby communities can be arranged on request at the time of booking.

"Booked an 11-day tour starting and finishing in Johannesburg and including Victoria Falls, Chobe and the Okavango Delta. The service from Cearl was very professional with numerous options discussed before settling on the final version. Prices seemed to be very reasonable."
