The Details
Location
Black Rhino sits within Gondwana Private Game Reserve on South Africa's Garden Route, a malaria-free Big Five reserve near Mossel Bay. The villa is perched above a wide valley of fynbos, the shrubland unique to the Cape Floral Kingdom, with the Outeniqua mountain range filling the horizon.
The setting is quiet and self-contained. The only company is the wildlife moving through the valley below, and sunsets drop behind the ridgelines before the reserve settles into night.
Rooms
The villa accommodates up to six guests across its private suites and is booked as a single unit, so there are no other guests on site. It comes fully staffed with a private field guide for the duration of the stay and a private chef preparing every meal.
In-villa comforts include Wi-Fi, DSTV and a premium specialty coffee maker, with the pace of the day set entirely by the guests rather than a lodge schedule.
Dining
Meals are prepared in the villa by the resident chef and served when guests want them, rather than at fixed sittings. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included, along with drinks: spirits, liqueurs, soft drinks and the house wine list. French champagne and premium wines are the only exclusions.
Activities
Two game drives run every day in a private vehicle with the villa's own guide, tracking the Big Five across Gondwana's valleys and ridges. Between drives, guests can head out on a guided fynbos walk to learn the plants of the Cape Floral Kingdom, or make use of the spa on the reserve for treatments booked separately.
For families, the Junior Ranger programme keeps younger guests busy with a custom activity book and hands-on bush learning built around the drives.
