The Details

Gondwana Private Game Reserve sits on the Garden Route between Mossel Bay and Albertinia, roughly a four-hour drive east of Cape Town. It is the only fynbos reserve on this stretch of coast where the Big Five roam free, and Kwena Suites occupies a quiet ridge with long views across the surrounding hills.

The lodge is arranged as ten free-standing suites clustered around a central guest area. Everything about the layout is built for couples: intimate dining, a shared infinity pool, and enough space between suites that neighbours are neither seen nor heard. Interiors lean on natural textures, thatch and stone, with double-volume ceilings that echo the traditional Cape farmstead vernacular.

Accommodation

Each of the ten suites runs to about 800 sq ft, open-plan under a double-volume thatched roof. Beds can be configured as king or twin (ten of the suites split into twins). Cotton percale linen, non-allergenic pillows, bathrobes, a tea station and a bar fridge come standard, along with an in-room safe, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are large, with a rain shower, deep bath set behind a picture window, double basins and a separate toilet room. A private covered patio with a double lounger sits off each suite.

Dining

Meals are taken in the shared lodge, which has several indoor dining areas alongside the bar and lounge. The full-board package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Beverages are charged separately.

Activities

Two game drives run daily in open vehicles, tracking lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard across the reserve's fynbos plains. Additional activities on the reserve include guided fynbos bush walks and spa treatments, both bookable at extra cost.
