The Details
Location
Harbour House Hotel is set on Harbour Road in the heart of the Old Harbour in Hermanus, the seaside town on the Western Cape's Whale Coast about a 90-minute drive east of Cape Town. The position puts guests within walking distance of the cliff path, art galleries, restaurants and the working harbour itself, with Walker Bay laid out in front of the hotel.
Rooms
Accommodation is split across three buildings. The Manor House offers modern, open-plan rooms with millstone floors, cast-iron baths and walk-in showers, with upper-level rooms featuring Juliet balconies and ocean views. The New Wing has spacious studios with lounge areas, en-suite bathrooms with a separate bath and shower, heated towel rails and a small kitchenette. Harbour Square, across the road from the main hotel, offers Rooms and Residences in a contemporary style, with the Residences adding a fully equipped kitchen and living area.
All rooms include tea and coffee facilities with a Nespresso machine, mini bar, uncapped Wi-Fi, DSTV and smart TVs for streaming. New Wing and Harbour Square rooms also have air conditioning.
Dining
Selkirk's Restaurant occupies the restored Manor House and serves breakfast daily along with a lunch menu inspired by local produce and fresh ingredients. Freshly baked scones are served on the Lookout Terrace, which doubles as the prime whale-watching perch during season.
Activities
The hotel sits on the Hermanus cliff path, with whale watching from June to November the headline draw. Guests can walk to the Old Harbour Museum, browse First Fridays Artwalk galleries, take boat-based whale or shark trips from the New Harbour, or drive into the nearby Hemel-en-Aarde Valley for wine tasting. The hotel's infinity pool and Mint Wellness Salon round out on-site downtime.

With Leigh-Ann across the team.
"Five Star level treatment. I booked our Safari in Sabi Sans at Arathusa lodge, and our stay in Cape Town South Africa back in August of 2026 and the experience had been amazing. Safari.com agents have every detail thought from travel insurance, eSIM for phones, private transportation, and booked us amazing experiences. We saw the Big 5 in the Safari, went cage Shark diving, did a private guided Cape Peninsula tour. Everything was perfect! This was our first time using Safari.com and we will definitely use them in the future. I would highly recommend this company."
