The Details
Location
Hôtel des Mille Collines sits in central Kigali, set on a ridge above the city in the Land of a Thousand Hills. The central business district, shopping mall and car-free zone are within a ten-minute walk, and the hotel can arrange private airport transfers on arrival and departure. The setting works well as a one or two-night city stay either side of a gorilla-trekking safari to Volcanoes National Park or a wildlife trip to Akagera.
Accommodation
The hotel has 112 rooms in total, ranging from Classic Rooms with garden or panorama views through to Junior Suites and Superior Suites. All rooms are air-conditioned and come with safes, televisions, a workspace, toiletries and fast Wi-Fi. Garden-view rooms look out over the pool and gardens at the heart of the property.
Dining
The hotel's restaurant focuses on local Rwandan cuisine alongside international dishes and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with dinner running daily from 7pm to 11pm. A Sunday brunch and a business lunch service are also offered, and the poolside gardens host live music and performances in the evenings.
Activities
This is a city hotel rather than a game-viewing property, so leisure facilities centre on a large outdoor swimming pool popular with lap swimmers, a fitness centre and the hotel spa. The team can arrange day trips and onward travel, including drivers to Akagera National Park for wildlife viewing or transfers north to Volcanoes National Park for gorilla and golden monkey trekking.
Spa
The on-site spa offers a range of treatments alongside use of the gym and pool. Special rates and packages are available on request through the front office.
