Location

The Houghton Hotel sits on Lloys Ellis Avenue in Houghton Estate, one of Johannesburg's most established residential suburbs. The property forms part of the Houghton Golf Estate, with the championship course wrapping around the hotel and shaping the western views from most suites. O.R. Tambo International Airport is roughly 15 miles to the east, making the hotel a practical stopover before or after a safari further north.

Accommodation

The hotel offers 75 keys across nine room categories. Entry-level options include five Luxury Apart Hotel Studios of around 60 square metres with full kitchenettes, eight Twin King Suites, 21 King Suites with vista views and 15 with pool views, plus ten Executive Suites and two Junior Suites. Four Presidential Suites sit at the top of the standard room range.

Above the suites are five Luxury Penthouses, two-bedroom duplexes each with a hot tub, and five Presidential Penthouses of 430 square metres with private swimming pools and hot tubs. The Iconic Presidential Penthouse runs to 630 square metres across two bedrooms, while The Rockstar Penthouse is a four-bedroom duplex of 830 square metres with a private elevator, swimming pool, hot tub, steam room and gym.

Dining

Four dining venues operate on the property. CYRA showcases Chef Candice's signature menu of bold, contemporary plates. Nova Bistro handles breakfast, lunch and a lighter dinner service in a more casual setting. Astra Lounge & Bar is the spot for cocktails and after-dinner drinks, and Pebbles Health & Pool Bar serves lighter fare beside the pools.

Activities

Beyond the spa and gym, guests can play the Houghton Golf Course on the doorstep, book a padel court, or use the hotel's luxury shuttle service into central Johannesburg. The Venue handles conferences for up to 500 delegates and banquets for 350, and a business lounge with hot-desking and boardrooms supports working stays.

Houghton Spa has collected a long list of awards including Best Luxury Modern Hotel Spa Africa and Best Luxury Wellness Spa Southern Africa at the 2025 World Luxury Spa Awards.
