The Details
Location
Ingagi Lodge sits in Kinigi in northern Rwanda, the village that serves as the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. The lodge is set against a backdrop of the Virunga volcano chain, the protected forests that shelter Rwanda's mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund headquarters, local art markets and the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo are all within easy reach.
Accommodation
The lodge has 12 units sleeping a maximum of 25 guests. Nine Forest Cottages of around 56 square metres are scattered through the gardens, joined by the Agashya triple cottage, two Individual Luxury Cabins of around 82 square metres, and the Ingagi Gorilla Villa Suite, a family villa with two king-size beds for groups of up to four. Cottages feature fireplaces, locally crafted furnishings and views of the surrounding forest and volcanoes.
Dining
Meals are served in the lodge's restaurant, which leans on locally sourced Rwandan produce alongside international dishes. A panoramic bar looks out across the volcanoes, and a coffee shop pours Rwandan single-origin coffee through the day. Rates include breakfast, lunch and dinner, with extra lunches charged at $30 per person and extra dinners at $40 per person.
Activities
Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park is the headline activity, with guided treks to habituated mountain gorilla families and to troops of golden monkeys. Beyond the trek, guests can take guided scenic walks along the foothills of the Virunga volcanoes, cycle the trails around Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo, and visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and local craft markets. Massage and sauna treatments are available at the lodge for an additional fee.
