The Details

Location

The Intercontinental Johannesburg Airport sits directly opposite the international and domestic terminals at O.R. Tambo, linked by a covered walkway that takes under five minutes on foot. For guests arriving on long-haul flights into Johannesburg or connecting onward to safari destinations across Southern Africa, it is the closest hotel to the airport and removes the need for any transfer vehicle.

The Gautrain station at the airport provides a fast rail link into Sandton and Pretoria, making the hotel a practical base for a short business trip as well as a transit stop.

Rooms

The hotel offers a mix of classic rooms, club rooms and suites, all soundproofed against aircraft noise and finished in a contemporary style. Standard amenities include air conditioning, a writing desk, high-speed Wi-Fi, satellite television, an in-room safe, a minibar and tea and coffee facilities.

Club InterContinental rooms and suites add access to the Club Lounge, with complimentary breakfast, all-day refreshments and evening canapés, plus dedicated check-in and concierge service.

Dining

Quills Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and remains open 24 hours a day, with a buffet and an à la carte menu drawing on South African and international dishes. The Baobab Lounge serves light meals, afternoon tea, cocktails and a curated wine list in a quieter setting overlooking the pool.

Round-the-clock in-room dining is available for guests on early-morning or late-night flights.

Activities

Facilities include a heated outdoor swimming pool, a fully equipped fitness centre and a spa offering massages and beauty treatments. A business centre with meeting rooms and secretarial support caters to working travellers, and the concierge can arrange day tours into Johannesburg, including visits to the Apartheid Museum and Soweto, for guests with a longer layover.

"Five Star level treatment. I booked our Safari in Sabi Sans at Arathusa lodge, and our stay in Cape Town South Africa back in August of 2026 and the experience had been amazing. Safari.com agents have every detail thought from travel insurance, eSIM for phones, private transportation, and booked us amazing experiences. We saw the Big 5 in the Safari, went cage Shark diving, did a private guided Cape Peninsula tour. Everything was perfect! This was our first time using Safari.com and we will definitely use them in the future. I would highly recommend this company."
