The Details

Location

Satara Plains Camp sits in the heart of the Satara region of the Kruger National Park, a few miles from the Satara Rest Camp and within easy reach of the fabled S100 route that follows the Nwanetsi River. This is one of the Kruger's most celebrated wildlife areas, globally known for its big cats, large herds of buffalo and elephant, and other predators including painted wolves and spotted hyena.

It is the larger and more social of the two Kruger Untamed camps, well suited to groups, families, couples and solo travellers, and operates only during the South African winter from May to September.

Accommodation

Thirty luxury tented suites are spread across open savanna. Each tent has a covered verandah, zip front with mesh, fully meshed side windows, a separate dressing area that can double as a children's room with two single beds, and an en-suite bathroom with safari shower, single basin and RV-style flushing chemical toilet.

The bedroom is built around a queen-sized bed with luxury linen, soft duvets, plush pillows and warm blankets, and can be converted to twins. Bedside lamps, mosquito nets, carpets, a vanity mirror, clothing rack and luggage rack complete the picture. Electric plug points are provided for charging mobile devices; medical devices must be pre-arranged with reservations.

Dining

Meals are taken in a beautifully appointed communal dining space under the vaulted African sky. Breakfast is a generous spread with a full English option, followed by a light lunch and a set-menu three-course dinner using fresh, locally sourced ingredients infused with bush flavours.

The bar serves house wines and beers, soft drinks, teas, coffees and bottled water, all included in the rate; premium spirits are charged separately. An extended lounge area with gazebos, hanging chairs, sun loungers, a firepit and an outdoor wood-fired hot tub gives guests plenty of places to relax between drives.

Activities

One game drive per day is included in the base rate, with additional game drives and guided walking safaris available on request at a surcharge. Drives explore the predator-rich Satara plains and the S100 route along the Nwanetsi River, with strong odds on lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo and African wild dog.

Evenings centre on the campfire, where guests gather to share the day's sightings before being walked back to their tents by a ranger.
