The Details
Tshokwane River Camp is Kruger Untamed's original camp and the first seasonal luxury tented concession inside the Kruger National Park. It sits in the beating heart of the reserve, a few kilometres from the historic Tshokwane picnic site, where the game density and open plains have drawn safari-goers for generations.
The setting is the seasonal Ripape riverbed, with tents tucked beneath riverine trees for shade and quiet. Because it only operates through the dry southern-African winter, wildlife concentrates around remaining water, and viewing stays consistent from opening to close.
The pace is slower than a big lodge. Twenty tents, walking as well as driving, and evenings around a riverbed firepit rather than a polished bar. It suits travellers who want the bush close, not filtered through resort architecture.
Accommodation
The camp has 20 luxury tented suites under canvas. Each has a covered verandah, mesh-panelled windows and a separate dressing area that can be reconfigured with two single beds for children sharing with parents.
Bedrooms hold a queen-size bed (convertible to twins) with proper linen, duvets, pillows and blankets for the cold winter nights, plus bedside lamps and mosquito nets. En-suite bathrooms have a single basin, a safari shower filled with hot water morning and evening, and an RV-style flushing chemical toilet serviced twice daily. Plug points are provided for charging.
Game Drives
Guests choose between two game drives a day in open safari vehicles or a guided walk with a rifled ranger. The camp sits in one of Kruger's most productive Big Five areas, and walking adds the option of following spoor on foot and reading the bush at ground level. Rangers escort guests back to their tents after dinner.
Dining
Meals are served in a communal dining space on the riverbank and use fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast runs to a full English if you want it, lunches are lighter, and dinner is a set three-course menu with bush flavours, eaten under open sky.
The bar pours house wines, local beers, soft drinks, teas and coffees as part of the rate, with premium spirits charged separately. As night falls the action moves down to the Ripape riverbed, where a firepit, hanging chairs, sun loungers and the camp pool sit alongside an extended lounge under gazebos and pergolas.

"Sara was absolutely amazing to work with. She created five different itinerary options for us to choose from based on the criteria and budget I provided for our family trip to Kruger National Park. What I appreciated most was how willing she was to connect over WhatsApp to really understand what we were looking for. After our call, she worked incredibly fast and sent all the options the very next day. Every itinerary included exactly what we asked for and stayed within our budget. Her service, attention to detail, and genuine care made the entire process stress-free. I honestly didn’t even know where to start planning this trip, so her help was enormous. Thanks to Sara, not only did we find the perfect safari package, but we also booked our flights as well. Thank you, Sara, for the excellent service and support — we truly appreciate everything you did for us!"
