The Details

Kuganha sits within a 10,000-hectare private reserve in the Cape Tankwa Karoo, a landscape that was pushed hard for generations and shot out of its wildlife more than 275 years ago. Decades of committed conservation have brought the Big Five and much else back, and the retreat was built on the same principle applied to guests: give people space, and they return to themselves.

The setting is quiet Karoo semi-desert, with independent energy and water systems keeping the property self-sufficient. Architecture is deliberately understated, using natural materials that blend into the surroundings rather than compete with them. The reserve is reached by luxury road transfer from Cape Town.

This is a wellness-led safari rather than a conventional game lodge. Restoration is built into the suites themselves, so guests can move at their own pace between private spa rituals, guided game drives, and unhurried meals.

Accommodation

Ten private restoration suites line the edge of a watering hole. Each suite spans a minimum of 320 square metres, described as the largest tents on the African continent, and functions as a complete private environment with heat and cold therapies, water features, and in-suite spa facilities. Every suite is designed for privacy, with no need to leave to access wellness treatments or quiet space.

Set within the tranquillity of the Cape Tankwa Karoo, Kuganha embeds its entire wellness experience directly into each private tented suite, completely eliminating the need for a central spa.

Each suite is a self-contained restoration sanctuary designed for seamless hot-and-cold contrast, steam, salt, and flotation therapies in complete privacy.

• In-Suite Facilities: Private sauna, steam room & shower, salt halotherapy chamber, flotation pool, cold plunge, Jacuzzi, double soaking baths, outdoor shower, twin massage beds, and a private deck.
• Check-In Ritual: A guided orientation on arrival to introduce guests to the suite's thermal, salt, and flotation facilities.

Signature Spa Journeys

• Skin Hydrating Journey: Full-body exfoliation and wrap in the sauna, followed by a cleansing steam shower.
• Body Recovery Journey: Deep tissue massage targeting muscular tension, followed by time in the salt halotherapy chamber.
• Restoration Journey: Specialised Rungu stick bodywork paired with sensory deprivation flotation therapy.

In-Suite Treatment Menu Individual treatments can be scheduled around the guest’s itinerary and delivered directly to the suite.

Dining

Meals draw on seasonal Karoo ingredients with a focus on simple, honest cooking and unhurried service. All meals are included, along with a curated selection of soft drinks, beers, house wines and spirits. Signature experiences include boma dinners and sundowners out on the reserve.

Activities

One morning and one afternoon game drive run each day across the Big Five reserve. Additional experiences include an educational cheetah conservation encounter, guided birding and nature walks, and stargazing under Karoo skies.
