The Details

Location

La Fontaine sits in the heart of Franschhoek village, a short drive from Cape Town and surrounded by the mountains of the Cape Winelands. The hotel is steps from the village's main street, putting art galleries, boutique shops and many of South Africa's most celebrated restaurants within easy walking distance.

The property carries a rich history as a former girls' boarding school, with its two heritage buildings dating back to 1895 and 1926. Tranquil gardens shaded by wisteria pergolas and lush vines create a peaceful retreat in the centre of the village.

Accommodation

Seventeen luxury suites are spread across the two heritage buildings. Five Deluxe Rooms offer a compact entry-level option with an extra-length king-size bed, en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower, writing desk and international plugs. Five Luxury Rooms step up the comfort with elegant en-suite bathrooms and individually styled décor. Five Luxury Suites add a spacious en-suite bathroom with separate bath and shower. Two Mountain View Suites are the most generous, with luxurious en-suite bathrooms and private balconies opening onto sweeping Franschhoek mountain views.

Dining

Breakfast is served at the hotel each morning. La Fontaine does not run a full restaurant programme; instead, the village setting puts guests within walking distance of Franschhoek's celebrated dining scene, where the concierge team can secure reservations at the leading restaurants in the valley.

Activities

The hotel runs a private touring and transfer fleet, with half-day and full-day Winelands tours, full-day Hermanus excursions and transfers to Cape Town International Airport, the V&A Waterfront, Camps Bay and Clifton. Between excursions, guests can swim in one of two pools, relax on sun loungers in the gardens or simply wander the village. A honeymoon turndown with champagne, rose petals and gift-wrapped chocolates is available on request.
