About the lodge

An overview of LABA Mama Simba.

LABA Mama Simba is a small owner-run retreat on the edge of Laikipia in Kenya, set among gardens with views out to Mount Kenya. Five private cottages, home-style cooking and a Masai guide on staff make it feel closer to staying with friends than checking into a lodge, with horse riding and walking safaris on the doorstep.

Highlights

  • Five private garden cottages on a working Laikipia property
  • Horse riding across open country with experienced guides
  • Walking safaris led by a resident Masai guide
  • Full board with premium-brand drinks included
  • Views of Mount Kenya from the gardens and pool

You Should Know

  • Small property with only five cottages, so availability is tight in peak months
  • Activities focus on riding and walking rather than classic vehicle-based game drives
  • Check ahead on child policy before booking with young children

The Details

Location

Mama Simba sits in the Laikipia region of central Kenya, north of Mount Kenya and within reach of the wider Laikipia conservancies. The setting is quiet, rural and green, with gardens that open out towards the mountain.

Rooms

Guests stay in five individual garden cottages, each private and self-contained. The cottages are decorated in a warm, homely style rather than a corporate safari-lodge look, which suits the small scale of the place.

Dining

Meals are home-cooked and served in the main house or outside in the garden depending on the weather. Full board is included, along with drinks that cover premium-brand spirits and wines. Champagne is the only exception and is charged separately.

Activities

The property is built around two main activities. Horse riding is a core part of the experience, with routes out across the surrounding country. Walking safaris are led by a resident Masai guide, on foot with a dog called Dolly for company when guests wish. There is also a swimming pool and gym on site for downtime between activities.

Price Includes

  • Full board accommodation
  • Drinks including premium-brand alcohol (excluding Champagne)
  • Laundry
  • Two activities per day, chosen from horse riding and walking safari with a Masai guide
