The Details

Location

The lodge sits on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania, part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The caldera below is roughly 100 square miles of grassland, swamp and soda lake, with resident lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and one of the last populations of black rhino easily seen from a game vehicle.

Ngorongoro is a natural pairing with the Serengeti to the north-west, and most guests arrive by road from Arusha or by light aircraft into Manyara or Lake Ndutu airstrips before the final drive up to the rim.

Rooms

Accommodation is arranged as individual rooms or suites finished in a warm, contemporary style, with private bathrooms, generous beds and heating for the cool crater-rim evenings. Full room specifications should be confirmed at the time of booking.

Dining

Meals are full board and taken in the main lodge, with a mix of plated dinners, buffets and picnic lunches when guests are out on an activity. The drinks list runs to premium-brand spirits, wines and beers, all included in the rate; Champagne is the only exclusion.

Activities

The rate covers two guided activities a day. The signature outing is a game drive down onto the crater floor in a private vehicle, timed around the permit windows that limit vehicle numbers. Other options typically include cultural visits to nearby Maasai communities, guided walks on the rim and drives through the wider conservation area.
