The Details
Location
The camp sits on the shore of Lake Nzerakera, deep inside Nyerere National Park in southern Tanzania. Nyerere covers more than 11,500 square miles, making it one of the largest wildlife reserves on the continent. Elephant, buffalo, lion, wild dog and hippo all move through this stretch of country, and the lake system pulls in birdlife year round.
Rooms
Accommodation is in tented suites raised on wooden decks facing the water. Each has an en-suite bathroom, an outdoor shower and a private veranda for watching hippo and elephant come down to drink. The layout is designed for two guests sharing, with a handful of tents configured for families travelling together.
Dining
Meals are taken in the open-sided main mess or out in the bush, depending on the day. The kitchen leans on fresh produce with a French influence from the LABA LABA group's roots, served as plated three-course dinners rather than buffets. Bush breakfasts and sundowners on the lake edge are part of the standard rhythm.
Activities
Game drives run morning and afternoon in open 4x4 vehicles. Boat safaris on Lake Nzerakera are the signature activity, giving close approaches to hippo pods, crocodiles and a shoreline of birds. Walking safaris with an armed ranger cover ground the vehicles cannot, and fly-camping under canvas can be arranged for guests wanting a night out.
