The Details

Location

Leeu House stands in the centre of Franschhoek village, a working wine town in the Cape Winelands about an hour from Cape Town. The main street, its restaurants and the Everard Read gallery are all a short walk from the front door. Sister properties Le Quartier Français sits directly across the road and the flagship Leeu Estates is five minutes away by car.

Rooms

The bedrooms are individually decorated with natural textiles, high-quality linen and a relaxed feel that leans on the building's historic bones rather than fighting them. Select rooms come with private terraces. Bathrooms have marble floors, free-standing baths or generous showers, underfloor heating and heated towel rails. The pool terrace is shared between resident guests and looks out to the surrounding mountains.

Dining

The Conservatory is the house restaurant, serving leisurely breakfasts and lunches inside or on the terrace. For dinner, guests have access to the group's wider table: The Dining Room and La Petite Colombe at Leeu Estates, and Protégé and Épice at Le Quartier Français across the road. Wine tastings run at the Great Heart Wine Boutique, a four-seat counter reserved for guests of Leeu House and Le Quartier Français.

Activities

Most of what draws guests here is on foot: winery visits, gallery walks and long lunches around the village. Beyond that, the concierge arranges private cellar visits with Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, spa appointments at Leeu Estates and drives through the wider Franschhoek and Stellenbosch wine routes.
