The Details

Lemala Nanyukie opened in October 2018 in the eastern Serengeti, joining sister properties Kuria Hills, Mpingo Ridge in Tarangire and Hamerkop House in Arusha. The Serengeti, meaning endless plains in Maasai, is one of the most celebrated wilderness areas on the continent, and Nanyukie's setting puts guests within reach of the annual wildebeest migration as it crosses the central region.

The lodge sits on grassy savanna dotted with rocky kopjes and shaded by ancient giant acacias, with long views over the surrounding plains. Beyond the migration, this part of the Serengeti delivers high-density game viewing throughout the year and is particularly known for its concentration of big cats. The area was, until recently, set aside for scientific research into predators, especially cheetah, and the lodge remains open year-round.

Accommodation

Fifteen guest suites are spaced well apart for privacy, comprising thirteen standard suites and one two-bedroom suite suited to families or friends travelling together. Triples can be arranged on request. Canvas walls, cathedral-like tented ceilings and broad hardwood decks frame a contemporary interior of whites and neutrals, warmed with textured fabrics, wooden furnishings and considered lighting.

Each suite features an oversized bed, spacious lounge and a generous bathroom with double vanity, indoor and outdoor showers, and a free-standing tub. The wooden deck has sunken seating, an outdoor shower and a corner plunge pool with direct views across the grasslands.

Game Drives

Game drives are led by Lemala's experienced guides and explore the eastern and central Serengeti, an area with year-round resident game and strong predator densities. The wildebeest migration moves through this zone on its annual circuit. Walking safaris are also offered, giving guests time on foot in the wilderness with an armed guide.

Hot-Air Balloon Safari

Dawn balloon flights lift off over the Serengeti's plains, giving an aerial perspective on the wildlife and landscape below. Flights are bookable as an additional activity.

Spa

A separate spa tent set quietly among the trees offers daily treatments. Therapists work from a full treatment menu, with the focus on relaxation and time out between game drives.

Dining

The double-volume main area houses a lounge, bar and both indoor and outdoor dining spaces, with an outdoor deck leading to a swimming pool. Bush breakfasts and lantern-lit dinners can be arranged, and the campfire is the natural gathering point for a post-dinner drink.
