The exclusive and intimate Baines Camp nestles within a huge private concession that borders with the Moremi Game Reserve in the world-renowned Okavango Delta. The elevated camp was named after the 19th-century explorer and painter Thomas Baines Built and was constructed using only commercially grown wood and over 150 000 recycled aluminium cans. Surrounded by papyrus beds and sheltered by shady trees, Baines Camp offers expansive views of the Bora river and lagoon that teem with wildlife.

  • Located in NG 32 private concession, Okavango Delta, Botswana
  • Experiences: Game drives, mokoro excursions, boating safaris, elephant interactions, walking safaris, scenic helicopter flights, bird watching, bush dining, African sunsets

The detail

Baines' Camp prides itself on offering an impeccable personalized service, luxurious accommodation, and attention to detail, which ensures an unforgettable safari experience.

Baines’ Camp offers five luxurious Suites, elevated on platforms overlooking the shimmering Boro River. Each suite features an opulent outdoor bathroom with a bathtub and shower, spacious bedrooms with a four-poster bed that can be wheeled out onto the deck, mosquito netting, comfortable seating, overhead fan, in-room safe, hairdryer, minibar, Wi-Fi, and a wooden viewing deck.

The camp facilities include a dining area, lounge, bar, laundry service, swimming pool with salas, and an expansive viewing deck.

There are flexible meal times at Baines’ Camp. Delectable breakfasts, brunches, and lunches are prepared and served to suit your activities and personal preferences. Guests may select bush brunches or lunch picnics, or enjoy gourmet meals in the verandah-style dining room.

The Okavango is famed for its big cats and birdlife, and guests can participate in a variety of game and bird viewing activities. Expert guides accompany guests on morning and evening game drives. During higher water levels, game drives are combined with motorized boating excursions. Walking safaris afford the opportunity to track and follow Okavango wildlife, and learn about the plants, birds and habitats of this wilderness. Alternatively, guests may pole along the tranquil waterways in a mokoro and view the animals from the water.

The Living with Elephants activity is a must-do. This leisurely walk with two semi-habituated elephants is an extraordinarily enriching experience, giving guests a chance for personal interaction with these gentle giants.

Sanctuary Baines' Camp is ideal for solo explorers, couples and families looking for a luxury safari getaway.

Absolutely Stunning! Enjoyed every minute and it was treated to come back to a bubble bath under the stars after a long time long day!!! We loved all of the Sanctuary camps and guides, but this was special! The most amazing sunset! Ready to go back today!
We traveled with friends and stayed 2 days. Amazing landscape with beautiful vistas and stargazing. The staff was outstanding and very attentive. Dinners on the deck were wonderful with the nice variety and good wines. Make sure you do the Elephant interaction with Doug and Sandy- not to be missed. Nighttime was noisy with frogs/ birds and hippos walking right past your deck! Bring your earplugs if you are a light sleeper but what a treat to sleep in the bush with all the animal activity around you. Also, if available, take a sundowner boat ride on the river. Fred, our guide, was excellent and we communed with hippos and even fished as the sun set over the Savannah- a very tranquil sight! Definitely recommended!
This camp of all of the camps we have stayed in throughout Africa was a little bit more rustic but the service was wonderful and the room/cabin was cute. The game drives were wonderful. One night we came back from dinner and there were matching bubble baths set up out on the outside deck overlooking the reeds and the river. At night you could hear the hippos in the water. The next night our bed was moved out onto the deck and we slept under the stars. It was an amazing experience. There were lanterns and candles everywhere which was lovely when we arrived. The last night we had a private dinner at the pool with fabulous food and wine and a guard to protect us from the lions. Overall this was a spectacular visit. We love Botswana and loved Baines Camp. We would visit again in a heartbeat!
