The detail

The Zulu phrase for paradise is "Ezulwini" - appropriate in relation to the Ezulwini Game Lodges. Alive with the rustle and shimmer of local plantlife, Ezulwini stands as a tribute to the lush and mysterious bush in which it makes its home. With a diverse selection of habitats atrracting guests and enthusiasts from across the country, standing proudly as a member of the Kruger National Park conservancy. This riverine wonderland is the perfect vantage point from which to spot the Big Five, or soak in the crisp, clean air of the Kruger's famous lowveld.

Ezulwini's three game lodges provide a wonderful cross section of the local landscape - from Billy's Lodge, flanked on all sides by impressive indigenous vegetation, to River Lodge, affixed as it is to the banks of the mighty Olifants River, and Paradise Camp - majestic accommodation riveted to the lip of the echoing Olifants River Gorge.

Billy's Lodge provides luxury, thatched accommodation, with twin bed chalets and en-suite bathrooms, intimate living areas, air conditioning and overhead fans, tea and coffee making facilities, mini-bars, insect proof screening, and DSTV televisions. Sleeping up to ten guests, this riverside lodge also boasts a crystal clear swimming pool

River Lodge offers a series of thatched chalets, all with twin beds, with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and overhead fans, satellite televisions, tea and coffee making facilites and mini-bars, and elegant insect screens. The lodge accommodates up to fourteen guests.

Paradise Camp, a gold-era themed tented camp, located at the top of a hill. This charming little hideaway comprises of five rugged log cabins and an exquisitely converted Ox-Wagon Tent. Units are attached to outdoor showers and toilets, as well as being treated to a panoramic view of the surrounding bushveld, and boma dinners eaten under the stars.

Guests at Africa on Foot Camp can enjoy open safari vehicles twice a day, under the supervision of a team of trained and eager game rangers, who add a touch of familiarity to the otherwise wild scenario. Night drives add an extra spotlit dimension to this excitement. Game viewing takes place both on site, and in nearby areas.

Often more hands on, the popular game walks offer guests a "ground-floor" experience of the park. Hiking is also available, and regular fishing trips are also organised for keen anglers.

Ezulwini sports a variety of facilities for its guests, including internet access, fax facilities, nearby airstrip, on-site bar and laundry facilities, dry cleaning and room cleaning services, swimming pool, restaurant, and nearby horse riding and golf courses.

From the reserve's impressive hippo population, to the Big Five, and less common sightings such as the honey badger and civet cat, Balule reserve is a wildlife enthusiast's dream come true.

Adding to the experience are the abundant and colourful bird populations that guarantee a trip out into Balule's surrounding bush is one you're not likely to soon forget.

A trip to Africa has been on my list since I was in high school; 45 years later the planets aligned and there I was at Ezulwini River Lodge in the greater Kruger National Park. I had the pleasure of spending 3 nights at the River Lodge & 2 nights at their other property, Billy's Lodge. In a word, the overall experience was remarkable. Each property has it's own special vibe, so it's great that they encourage you to stay at both locations. My favorite was the River Lodge because of the staff. From the moment you arrive you are greeted with a smile & a personal warmth that radiates through everyone you encounter. Glory, Eddie & Lawrence were fantastic, made our stay a once in a lifetime experience. The food is plentiful & delicious, the accommodations are beautiful and the game drives are beyond fun. We managed to see the big 5 within the first two days but the safari experience never got old. Over at Billy's Lodge, the grounds aren't quite as rustic as the River Lodge giving you a whole different feel - still great. The only slight downside for me was the reception we received from the staff at Billy's - a "chilly" reception to be sure. The only time we saw the softer, more fun/friendly side was at the final dinner, a BBQ. The staff presented great singing & dancing, finally relaxing to show their more personable side. Ezulwini had hired a new administrative staff member who was only 3 days into the job when we arrived. Judging from her warm personality, it won't be long before everyone is smiling! The owner, Larry was MOST gracious & took all of us on a tour & tasting in his private wine cellar. He made himself available at meals to answer questions or to just share stories about the area. A fabulous place to stay!
Resort was very clean, great staff to give you the best experience. Enjoyed the small amount of guests which allowed for the personal touch. Food was out of this world. The guides did a great job and provided pictures of a lifetime.
We stayed 3 nights at Billy's Lodge. My husband and our friends had never been to a game reserve, while I had been to three previously. My previous experiences included an eco-lodge in Kenya, a luxury tented camp near Port Elizabeth in South Africa and a lodge at a national park in western Uganda. Billy's Lodge was not the most luxurious, did not have the most gourmet or varied food or the most frills. But, hands down, this very small resort (there are only a total of 6 rooms) was the most authentic game experience and the warmest and most personal hospitality I have ever experienced. The games drives were always well planned and enjoyable, and we were able to see elephants, rhino, lions, wild spotted dogs, giraffe, zebra and many other animals. The meals were simple but good, with two or three choices for starters, entrees and desserts every night. The visit to the wine cellar and the meals outdoors were special, but what really stood out was the staff. They were so helpful, so genuine in their welcome, and so friendly and kind that it was quite remarkable. Our friend had suffered from a back injury while in Cape Town and the staff could not have been more solicitous in ensuring that she was as comfortable as possible and they took special care to make sure that she was able to enjoy seeing some animals even though the normal game drives were not possible. We stayed in the larger luxury suites and I have to say that I think that they are well worth the price. Sitting on the deck in the afternoon and plunging in the private pool while watching giraffe and zebra go by is something not to be missed. If you are looking for an opportunity to share an experience with people who have been doing this for 16 years and who have the absolute best staff, this is the place for you. I wish that I could have stayed longer.
Ezulwini is a private lodge in the Balule Game Reserve which is part of the 6,000,000 acre Greater Kruger Reserve. This is all open, unfenced habitat in which the animals roam freely in their natural environment. We spent four nights at Ezulwini, two at River Lodge and two at Billy's Lodge. At both locations we were treated like royalty. The facilities were amazing. Although deep in the game reserve we had private native-styled lodging with air conditioning and private bath. The lodge compounds were secure and well maintained. Both lodges had boardwalks to elevated game viewing decks overlooking watering areas adjacent to the compound. The food was delicious and plentiful with fresh fruit and vegetables and a selection of entrees. Ezulwini limits the number of guests at each lodge so that the experience is more intimate and not so commercialized like the big lodges in Kruger National Park (we had four couples at River and three at Billy's). Each day we took two game drives into the bush...one at 6:00am and one at 4:00pm for three hours each. The viewing is better at dawn and dusk when the animals are active. Our ranger guides and trackers were superb in their ability to locate the animals. We saw three of the big five on our first day and ultimately saw all of the big five (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhino) several times including a very rare black rhino. Overall we saw more than 40 different species of animals (including giraffes, hippos, zebras, warthogs, wildebeest, cheetah, kudu, impala, baboons, crocodiles, and many, many birds). This was truly an experience of a lifetime and most highly recommended. One note - this is a rustic environment and would not be considered handicap friendly as it requires climbing in and out of the safari vehicles and the drives are along dirt roads and tracks through the rough terrain of the Bushveld.

December last year my husband and I bid on a trip at a cancer charity auction, we bid with the hopes of changing someone's life through cancer research! little did we know that bid would change our lives forever. I am certain that any safari at Kruger National Park will be a beautiful experience, I am also so certain that if you spend your safari with Ezulwini lodges that your experience will not only be beautiful but astonishing! There's so much to say...and trying to find the words to properly portray the experience is near impossible. we stayed at both lodges while we were there, both have so much to offer. They are the perfect setting of 5 star accommodations paired with nature at its rawest!! The rooms were amazing and after every morning game drive they had already cleaned the room, and made the bed...which was decorated with vibrant, lovely smelling, flawless rose pedals. Truly just walking into your mini palace was such a relaxing and peaceful feeling. The only decision that came hard was deciding which place to spend your downtime, there were too many amazing options. You could choose between poolside, a viewing tower, an open air breezy lounge or the most amazing tree house! Not just any tree house, one with the most immaculate view of the bush, with perfect shading and lounging furniture. I might mention that you don't have to climb a ladder to get to it, just enjoy an amazing walkway that delivers you to the best seat in the house (treehouse) The food served was delightful, with perfect portions and always fresh juice and fruit! The staff was the most pleasant I have ever encountered!!! They had contagious happiness, their smiles and laughter and just genuine kindness was truly what made the overall experience of the lodges so amazing! I have heard from many, that the game drives are all luck... I don't believe that! I believe that it is the skill of the trackers and rangers that put you on the most beautiful animal sightings you will ever see. I also think they have such a respect for the animals and are just so emotionally in tune with them that animals come out for them...there is a sense of love felt. The trackers and rangers have that glowing, star like twinkle in their eye with every animal they see. They are just as excited as their guest, as if every encounter Is like the first time! With each morning drive, they stop for coffee at their perfect spot of choice and in the evening pair the drive with snacks and drink of your choice, while enjoying the sunset. it was the perfect picnic each time! I might also mention that it seemed as if our Ezulwini was the only lodge to do that, during other encounters with rangers from other lodges I never saw them present picnic! On our drives we saw all BIG 5! we also saw hippo, crocodile, zebras, giraffe and loads of beautiful birds. Its hard for me to choose which drive was my favorite, they were all incredible!!! we had a drive that they put us on lion, cheetah and a beautiful leopard all within 2 hours. Seeing the Rhino on 2 different drives was also amazing, and emotional. The elephant was maybe the most thrilling, just because of their size!!!!! Such a gentle giant. The most life changing trip or experience I have ever had. Typically when wrapping up a trip, I'm eager to get home. Not this trip, I was sad to leave and the staff had such a large part of that. Part of my heart is still at Ezulwini Game lodges and I can only hope to get the chance to visit again!

Exceptional! Unsealed Road from main road to camp was difficult to pass. Camp itself was wonderful, staff was friendly, very obliging, discreet. A place to be!!!

Unorgettable trip in South Africa
We have spent 12 days as a family in South Africa with my 3 children and my wife who is in a wheelchair. Thanks to Pascal, Safari.com consultant, we were able to spend an unforgettable moment with a great program while being well accompanied despite our constraints. I recommand particularly the "Monwana game lodge" for a safari in Hoedspruit. It's an amazing place with very nice people and a real family atmosphere. Thank you to the entire Safari.com team for this unforgettable trip.

Superior service, knowledgeable, transparent, amazing can-do attitude
These guys get 10/10. I have booked with them a few times. To Kruger National Park, including both public and private(concession) camps, flights and car hire. Their senior agent, Dolan is exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble. Attention to detail, transparency, and 'can-do' attitude are out of the ordinary. I recently came into contact with Tanya at safari.com as well. It looks like all their agents are similarly well trained. Thank you. I cannot recommend Dolan and his team highly enough.

Cape Town miracle
I was in Cape Town, South Africa recently for an athletic competition and had allowed myself a week of personal time to relax and properly conclude the trip, but had not bothered to plan a safari to occupy the time. I was skeptical of the cost and whether I would enjoy the experience, however a couple days into that final week it occurred to me, in a bit of a panic attack, what a waste it would be not to take advantage of this opportunity. I hopped online and started looking at flights to Johannesburg (almost all the safaris in SA start there with an early morning pick up), but it was basically impossible to get a flight early enough and/or to coordinate with the multiple safaris operating in or just outside of Kruger. With no apparent options available to turn my remaining 4 1/2 days into even a 3 day safari I stumbled on the most obvious website one could imagine, Safari.com. I'd completely given up negotiating all the variables on my own but here was a safari travel agent that might be able to help me .. and they were based right out of Cape Town, literally a stones throw from my lodgings. Serendipity, or so i hoped. I immediately sent out an email and crossed my fingers .. for roughly an hour and a half, at which point Dolan from Safari.com responded to me requesting I give him a call so that we could expedite potential arrangements. My in country phone plan wasn't able to make calls, but we arranged for him to call me and not 3 hours after being in the grip of despair Dolan got through to me and far from notifying me of how absurd it was to hold out hope for a literally, last minute safari adventure with barely 4 days available to me, he had already worked out all the details I'd sent and created a preliminary safari trip that would bypass Johannesburg airport for a flight the next morning to a closer, much, much smaller airport where I would be picked up taken, not to a 3 day safari, but a full 4 day safari, then back to the tiny, tiny airport for a return flight to Cape Town with 2 hours to spare for my return leg all the way home. It almost feels like an afterthought, after the minor miracle Dolan was able to conjure up, but the safari itself at Simbavati Lodge was just an absolutely stunning experience. The single "tent" he booked me was as luxurious as any 4 star hotel I've stayed in, the game drives, one every morning, one every evening were more amazing than I could have ever imagined, and the food, 3 meals a day with snacks and an open bar was sublime. I could go on about the wonderful staff, or the wonderful other safari goers you can meet and grab a drink with, or the different animals walking through the open lodge facilities daily .. but I've gone on long enough. I'll simply conclude by saying .. safari, absolutely, yes, do it, it is amazing. And when you do decide, Safari.com will do you right and if you have the pleasure of working with Dolan, do give him my thanks .. the entire experience was the best part of my trip :)

A great company
What to say! We planned a South African Safari for 2020 with Safari.com. We researched companies and took a chance on one we had never heard of before. Henry Franklin was our agent, we gave him our budget and wish list. He came up with a wonderful looking trip and we made our choices! Then came Covid, preventing us from going. We couldn’t have been in better hands. Henry rebooked everything for the next year. He kept us updated on how things looked there. When in 2021, we decided it still looked iffy, he rebooked us a second time for 2022. We couldn’t have been happier with the service we had in a rough time for all. We had a wonderful experience on our trip when we finally got to go!! Henry had everything so well organized and gave us a detailed list of what transfer companies would be meeting us and when. When Airlink bumped us and put us on standby returning from Victoria Falls, we called the concierge number Henry had given us and Catherine worked hard on this and got us back on our flight. The Safari.com team had our back and we have no regrets. Would definitely use them again. Our lodging was wonderful, saw the big 5 within first 2 drives. Henry definitely knew the territory and did a great job matching what we wanted with where he suggested we go and stay. Thanks Safari.com, Henry and Catherine!
