The Details
Location
The lodge is perched on a headland above Sedgefield, between Knysna and Wilderness on the Garden Route. To the north lie the Outeniqua Mountains and the chain of Garden Route lakes, to the east and south the Indian Ocean with views over Goukamma Beach, and to the west the indigenous fynbos of the surrounding reserve.
George Airport is roughly 45 minutes away, with daily scheduled flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg. Private road transfers can also be arranged.
Setting
Sedgefield is South Africa's first official Slow Town, symbolised by a tortoise, and the lodge leans into the slow-travel philosophy. Guests can walk the estate's nature trails, sit with binoculars over the fynbos, picnic on the headland, or take sundowners over Gericke's Point. Beyond the property lie fossil dunes, secluded beaches, the Swartvlei and Sedgefield lagoons and a neighbouring protea farm.
Accommodation
Nine rooms and a private self-contained Fynbos Cottage sit high on the dunes overlooking the Indian Ocean. The line-up includes three Classic Rooms, Luxury Suites, Superior Suites and a Two Bedroom Superior Suite, alongside the cottage.
Classic Rooms have king or twin beds, en-suite bathrooms with generous showers, and French doors opening to a private seating area in the garden. Views look either over the Outeniqua Mountains and lagoon or across the fynbos to the Indian Ocean.
Spa
The on-site spa overlooks the ocean and fynbos-covered mountains and offers massages, facials and bespoke wellness treatments.
Dining
The kitchen focuses on sustainable sourcing and conscious consumption, with home-made, locally sourced food that takes its cues from the scents and textures of the surrounding fynbos. The style is contemporary and creative rather than formal.
